I'm a junior living in Illinois heading into my 2nd semester exams. I have a perfect 4.00 unweighted GPA heading into these exams, but out of 6 classes, I am probably going to end up with a 3.4 for this semester (4 B's). My overall GPA will still be a 3.89, but how bad do all those B's look. My other stuff includes SAT I: 2260 and ACT: 34. I'm looking at Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Rice, Duke, and Vanderbilt as options. Which ones should I consider significantly less now?

You still have a shot at those colleges, but it does look bad if you couldn’t really handle to junior courseload. I say you should still be able to get into those colleges.

What classes will the Bs be in? What was the rest of your schedule like? If those are all APs then it is somewhat understandable. If those are average classes then the school will wonder what happened.

All the B’s are in pretty tough classes (Theology Honors (the hardest), AP US History, Pre-Calculus Honors, and AP Spanish). Also, I’m being kinda pessimistic with some of them (like Pre-C and Spanish have an above average shot at squeezing into A’s.
