Well, I am a high school junior who was unintentionally marked absent in math class 9 times on my report card. By ‘‘unintentionally’’, I mean this was because my school transferred me from one math class to another on their own. Apparently, I was supposed to be in the second class much earlier (9 days) before I was notified of the transfer.
I spoke to the math teachers from both classes, as well as my guidance councilor. My guidance councilor said for me to go to both of my math teachers to fix this mess. I did that, and neither of them understood me. I even had my mom call my school, and this mess still isn’t clear yet.
How badly will this affect my chances of getting into college, if I am a great student otherwise, like if I get a 2200 on my SAT? I am freaking out!
Having 9 absences won’t affect your college admissions at all, not unless those absences negatively affected your grades enough to require an explanation (such as a drop from an A to a C) or if they are considered too much for full credit at your school (my school has a certain threshold where if you are absent a certain amount of times, you can’t earn full credit, though that policy is really about missing, say, months rather than days).
Otherwise, colleges won’t know what your attendance record is at all, unless it is on your transcript, in your letters of recommendation (which is often only when a teacher wants to say, “Soanso would do so much better if they showed up more frequently”), or school report. Since your counselor is aware of your situation, I doubt she will write anything about that in there.
If these absences are on your transcript, your mom needs to email the school principal (so it is in writing) about having this issue corrected. If the reason is truly what you say it is, the principal should take care of it without any problem. If the email doesn’t work, your mom should make an appointment to go in and speak with the principal in person. There is no reason for this to be on your record if it is in fact the school’s error. With college admissions being so competetive, you do not need anything on your record that could negatively affect your application, even in the slightest way.
@Monciel-They probably brought my grade down from like a 85-90 out of 100 to a 75, which is still passing.
@OhioMom2-I had my mom call my school. They got her to my guidance councilor, and as mentioned, the guidance councilor told me to go to both of my math teachers, which didn’t help at all because they didn’t know what I was talking about
They look at or even see attendence? Lolwut?
I miss like 2 days of school cuz im sick and the rest because of extra curriculars etc which makes it like 5 whole days and 15 half days. SO i would be screwed if it showed up cuz Then it would look like I miss 10% of school
