My 2nd term of senior year is coming to a close and I think I will end with a B+ in AP Calc. It is my only B, and I got an A+ in it last term.

How much will this affect me for top colleges? (I have two other B's on my transcript, freshman year honors english but I got an A in AP Lang jnr year so shows improvement... and a B+ in AP USH (4 on exam))

I'm freaking out right now that they will look at the B so poorly.

Will they keep in mind that it is a busy time with the holidays and college applications?

“Will they keep in mind that it is a busy time with the holidays and college applications?”

No, they’ll just evaluate you in comparison with their other applicants. If there’s nothing you can do about it, there’s no point in freaking out.

Objectively, google for the Common Data Set of your schools, and check section C12 (W or UW is often not specified). Since you have something like 3.9 UW, if you’re near the C12 GPA, you’re probably fine.

I have the same exact concern. My GPA is a 97.26 and I have never received a B, but this quarter I have an 89 in Calc BC. Will it help that my overall semester grade would be an A? I am extremely worried that this will ruin my chances at top schools.

Do your schools send semester grades? My son’s school does, but my daughter’s school did not. IMO, the mid-year grades will have little impact. Only final grades are averaged into GPAs, so it doesn’t make much sense to focus on one grade.

Yeah I’m hoping they won’t focus on that one grade too much. We school does send grades each semester, and decisions come out in April, so only the first semester will be sent in. My average for the first two terms will be an A, so that shouldn’t be too bad.

Lol don’t worry about it so much! A good gpa’s important, but it doesn’t have to be perfect. Even the top schools don’t only accept 4.0s. In fact, they often reject them! Having ECs and a good gpa is better than a perfect gpa and no ECs.
