How much work?

I was accepted to CAS. I am planning on doing a one hour commute to school (I have no desire whatsoever to dorm). Going the pre-med route, with a 16 credit semester, how much time should I expect to be doing homework and studying? Will I have enough time to tackle research opportunities and a 25 hr/wk job?

I'm a very hard worker and a very good student. I don't waste time sitting on the couch doing nothing, nor do I waste an excessive amount of time "hanging out."

Also, is it even probable that I would be able to make my schedule contain mostly early morning classes as a freshman, or would I have little choice due to seniority? I'm looking to catch an early morning express bus (to minimize traffic), go to class, and have the rest of the day to study.

I’m an Econ major but was in a very similar situation last semester. I had 16 credits, was in a couple clubs on campus, interned for about 25 hours a week, and had a 50 minute commute. Honestly, it was tough and I was only able to manage about 4-5 hours of sleep a night, but I got used to it after a couple of weeks.

I’ll try to break my schedule down for you just so you have a better idea of what to expect:

9 AM - 1 PM: work
2 PM - 6 PM: class
6 PM - 8 PM: club meetings (if any)
8 PM - ??: study

I think it’s important to be able to have fun on the weekends though; otherwise, you might burn out pretty quickly.
