So basically I plan on applying to several ivies and other top tier schools, and I am a rising senior who has not taken any SAT 2's. I know they say recommended but does that mean pretty much a requirement? Has anyone gotten into these schools without the subject tests? For some background I have a 35 on the ACT and 3 AP 5's and one AP 4. Any advice would be appreciated.

I don’t think it’s necessary unless stated otherwise on the admission requirements page of the university you wish to apply to; however it does show your interest in those subjects (and knowledge), which will help you when applying to a university known for its majors (blahblah like georgia tech for example)

^-^ i hope that helped

Many top schools will take the ACT or (SAT + SAT II). You can apply to these.
There are few top schools that do (SAT or ACT) + SAT II. You cannot apply to these.

Each school will tell you their requirements.

Generally speaking, “recommended” means recommended if you want to get in.

There are some schools that will use APs in lieu of SAT IIs (Some Canadian schools for example).

It honestly depends on the school. Georgetown, for example, requires 3, no exceptions. U of Chicago states that they are not necessary at all, though you can submit them if you wish. However, they hardly even look at your standardised exam scores.

Both of those Universities are top tier schools with acceptance rates below 20.

Most o fthe top tier schools including the Ivies require 2 SAT subject tests and Georgetown requires 3 plus they use a non common app 2 part application.

If you have enough time to prepare take at least 3 subject tests.

Good luck!
