Quinnipiac is my number one school, and they gave me a pretty good scholarship (17,000/year); however, they did not give me any additional financial aid. I really want to attend this school, but it is almost financially impossible for my family. We want to try to negotiate the price, but I am just wondering how willing to negotiate the university is. Any and all advice appreciated, and thank you in advance
You would need to provide an example of a school in the same teir as Quinnipiac or better who have you more aid. That’s your bargaining chip.
Thank you! I think that’s what we are thinking of doing, I actually applied to some schools for that precise reason
I just heard on NBC news that QU is #6 on the list of schools nationwide from which students graduate with the most student debt ($45,000.) Something to take in consideration, perhaps.
Slight correction, it’s $44,552 actually.

Wow, that’s a scary large amount, @ctmom2018!
They left a large gap in my kid’s financial air package also. I don’t understand this since QU requires the CSS PROFILE and knows our financial situation. Am I supposed to take out a second mortgage and go into further debt just to finance my child’s college education?
Just got our ‘award’ letter notification. Non-award more accurate. While grateful for the Dean’s Scholarship (which we already knew about), there was zilch beyond the Stafford Loan. Not even work-study (which I thought would be part of the minimum offered). Not sure how a student loan is considered an ‘award.’ (though I know every college uses that verbiage). Oh well…was hoping some decent aid would keep QU a consideration, but not to be. Since it’s not his first choice anyway, negotiating isn’t worth the trouble. We’ll leave whatever they’d come up with for other families. Good luck all.
So far I have heard that nobody has gotten any aid on their financial aid report from them…curious. It’d be strange to allow people access to the “award” without having actually put anything there
For our daughter, the financial aid award included a small subsidized loan on top of the merit scholarship. Don’t remember the details but it does appear to bring the net cost to about the EFC. The amount of the EFC is another matter entirely…
That’s exactly what we got too. Id love to know where the money they found for our EFC is…because we certainly don’t know
Just submitted the FAFSA on Saturday … Not expecting anything but is the Stanford loan guaranteed to all students ? Is it for $5,500 and is the interest accruals deferred until after graduation ? I procrastinated knowing the only hope we had was a loan. It’s my daughters first choice and the scholarship put it into the ballpark.
I am not sure of the amount (it has been increasing over the years and the amount can increase in subsequent college years). The FAFSA results determine if the Stafford loan is subsidized or not subsidized. If EFC is too high the loan would not be subsidized and interest would accrue over the college years. When the loan is offered they should tell you whether it is subsidized or not.
Know this is more of a financial aid response but we received an e-mail right after filing the FAFSA with the estimated EFC.
