So, the question is --- How often do you read for leisure? ---and/or--- How many books a year do you read?

I try to read fairly often

Currently, assigned reading for school has interfered with my pleasure reading, but during high school I read about 7 books a year on average I’d say

I don’t read anything but articles for pleasure (I know, odd right?). Most moddern fiction writters seem to write for a primaraly female audience (or, at least, those are the books I see on display at the local bookstore. Either way, its hard to get into a book ment for a girl when you are a boy) and most of the older texts that I’ve had a passing interest in I’ve read in my Language Arts classes.

That said, I’ve been meaning to do more pleasure reading. I need to read some more Hemmingway in particular. I love his style of writting and “The Sun Also Rises” easily became one of my favorite books over the summer.

It’s hard to read for pleasure during college.

^What if you bring an e-reader?

There’s just not enough time

I’ve got my copy of The Guermantes Way right over my bed, but I can only do a few pages a night. On the plus side, the library has like every book I could want to read after that

Wouldn’t an e-reader, being something that you could simplistically carry around, allow you to read while you’re waiting for buses, meals, and drinks though?

Don’t you have free time on the weekends?

I suppose that’s true. I waste all my free time on the interwebz.

I should probably read instead >_>

After doing homework theres no time to read anything else. And all the books i have to read for school are boring. And the teachers like to find the hidden meanings in the books, but the authors are all unusual (really strange) dudes.

I actually try to read for 15-30 minutes before going to sleep. You can’t get through a book quickly that way, but you do make progress

So far this year I’ve read around 55-60 books, normally I don’t keep count but I have to have a reading log this year for English. I could go a while without reading when I’m busy, but once I start a decent book, I finish it within two days (no matter the length, and even if I am incredibly busy).

How many books a year? Huh, that’s a hard one. At least 50, but that includes rereads of favorites. Part of this is because I’m a compulsive reader. Once I start a good book, I can’t stop until I’m done. This + my internet addiction = no sleep.

Incidentally, how fast do you guys read? For medium difficulty texts, I usually read about 450-500 words per minute, 550-600 if I’m trying to speedread. More than that and I start to lose accuracy.

^ …have you actually timed yourself or something? I have no idea how many books I read a year, let alone how many words I read per minute. I know I read faster than most of my friends though.

I read probably at least 100-200 books a year, 300 in a good year. (I read, at times, multiple books a day in the summer). I don’t know how fast I read, but I can read Pride and Prejudice in an hour, Jane Eyre in a couple, and not literature like Meg Cabot in 30 to 45 minutes.

I’m trying to read at least a book a week this year. Usually, I can finish a book in four or five days if I’m really into it (I could finish it faster, but school takes up a lot of time). I started during the summer, so I probably won’t get to 52 by the end of the year. But I’ll try! :)

i read books in a bunch, so i might read 15 books one week, and then not read again until a month later, since it’s hard to find leisure time. I’m a bibliophile though and I typically read about 100 to 150 books a year. The librarian in my town know me pretty well but she alway rolls her eyes whenever I take 20 books.

15 books in a week??

I’m jealous. I’d already have In Search of Lost Time finished by now, and I could go onto read like everything

yeah, my shame is reading books late at night. My parents often have to hide the books so I can stay focused on my school work first. :(

I’m a binge reader: I’ll average about 5 books a week during breaks, but during the school year, I’ll not read anything, or at most do a book a month. Not counting school books or rereading (neither of which I feel is actual reading for some reason), I probably read about 30 books a year.
