How often do you take your laptop to class with you?

Every day? Often? Sometimes? Rarely? Never?

Reason I'm asking is I'm debating on getting a heavier laptop that has more of the accessories I want and I got to thinkin...do you really carry your laptop everywhere with you? Or will I be taking notes with pen/paper.

That’s going to vary a lot school to school.
Which University are you referring to?

Anything bigger than 13.3" –> Never. Way too clunky (I have a 17" laptop and it’s just too cumbersome)

I have two netbooks: One 10.1" that I take to labs and 1 13.3" that I take to class

A big school like the university of washington

University of Washington I am not familiar with.
Some schools, e.g. Clemsen, Miami Oxford, are set up for laptops
as a part of most classes/classrooms. Other schools are started to see
laptops as a distraction in class, as kids are spending time on Facebook etc
instead of paying attention to the Prof.

University of Washington School of law seems to fall into the distraction camp,

That may be symptomatic of the school as a whole.

If you are in a class where the Professor discourages laptops, put it away.

Never. I take my iPad, and use a stylus to mark up the professor’s provided lecture notes with additional information. For a technical class, like Calculus/Math, I use the stylus with a note-taking app (with a zoom-to-write function). Of course, if we’re doing integration drills in class or something, then I use a regular pencil/notebook. Everything on the iPad is synced to Dropbox and organized in folders according to the course.

Which apps do u use the most on your iPad?

Stanza and Notify.

I can’t vouch for being in college, but I brink my laptop to class everyday in HS. Makes it so much easier to take notes on it, better for the environment, and when I get bored during a free period, I can easily pop up a practice test for one of my AP’s, update Twitter/Facebook occasionally, or work on any projects I may have at the time.
I have a desktop at home that I use, a 13.3" that I bring to class, that has quite a few feautures but not all of them, and a 17" laptop that I rarely use, so it mainly collects dust around the house, or if a friend stops by and forgets to bring theirs, they’ll use it.

High school classes are not like college classes. You won’t have downtime in college classes, you’ll either be listening to a lecture or participating in discussion. Computers can be good for taking notes in certain types of classes (basically everything non science, math, etc). Mostly though, people just use them for playing games and being on facebook during class.
