sorry but what is the difference between semester and quarter grades?
are semester grades the final grade for a class?
because the way my school does it, we have 4 quarters in a year but we take classes year round. so i have english, math, science, history, psychology etc all four quarters… we actually call them marking periods. we have four in a year…

so for example
im in 2nd marking period and i currently have a D in my math class… so if i end this marking period my D this marking period gets averaged in with my first marking period grade (B) and my 3rd and 4th mp grade and all those grade equal my final grade for that class…

Semester grades were calculated at my daughter’s high school (in Florida) by averaging the first two quarter (or grading periods), then giving that figure an 80% weight and the midterm or final counted as 20% for the final semester grade.

vodkaNcavier, I would ask your school counselor how grades are reported on your transcripts to FSU. They may only receive an end of the year grade or they may receive everything.

If you are at a Florida public high school, FSU looks at each semester’s grades. This is how they know whether your semester grades show a downward trend or not. They do not care about quarter or final grades. In fact, if you go to a Florida public high school, your quarter and final grades are not even on your transcript.
Semester grades are calculated by averaging either your two quarter grades, or your two quarter grades and your semester exam, depending on the level of the class (regular vs honors/AP/IB/etc).
This might be different at private schools, depending on how they do grades, but Florida public schools all report grades the same way.

im out of state so fsu would only get my transcript until after i graduate
and i believe my school sends out all my grades from my marking period and then my final class grade.

Hey guys I emailed FSU and they haven’t responded so I plan on calling them tomorrow. It said on there website that they make exceptions if students contact them immediately in some cases so their acceptances don’t get rescinded. I was wondering what are these cases and if it is strictly if you show that you care about going there? Thank you

vodkancaviar, FSU can request your transcripts showing the fall semester’s grade any time that they wish, for any reason. Don’t just assume that because you are out of state that you are safe because they can’t see your grades without asking for your transcripts.

Kyle, I don’t have experience, but it was always emphasized that if something was looking to go badly that could jeopardize your admission to FSU, to contact them and explain things just in case, that it was a much better idea than to just ignore everything. That said, I don’t know how much it stops them from rescinding you if you contact them, but I would imagine that it helps a decent amount, given that they make the emphasis that you should contact them.
