How often does FSU rescind summer acceptances?

Thanks for answering

Appreciated

When we toured FSU in July 2010, the admission officer who conducted our information session stated that they had rescinded around 300 offers the previous year. Having your offer rescinded is based on your senior grades, which they may not receive and review prior to starting summer session. Several years ago, a poster on this board reported that a friend of hers failed one of her senior classes and was notified in the middle of summer term that her offer was rescinded and that she would not be allowed to return for fall semester. If you feel you are in jeopardy of being rescinded, contact admission. Hopefully they can work with you to avoid that happening.

Pretty much avoid getting any D’s in your summer classes, and it shouldn’t happen. I know that especially this year, FSU has gotten much more strict in regards to the lower grades (1 D used to not be killer, now people with exceptional applications otherwise are getting rejected for Ds) so it might change.

The best advice is to just try to keep all your grades at a C or above, and to limit the Cs. Ds aren’t necessarily going to get your offer rescinded, but seeing the trends this year, it’s much more likely I think.

Like WallaceFL said, if you fear you are in jeopardy of losing your acceptance, contact FSU promptly.

FSU is my first choice and I will be a freshman next year. I’ve been accepted for summer as am currently in IB, but I fear this 1st semester my unweighted gpa will be a 2.8 weighted 3.6-3.8 with 2 D’s I believe. So I am worried. What is your take given these stats?

Two Ds? Honestly, I’d probably be expecting to be rescinded.

Then again, IB is something FSU loves, so they might excuse that. But two is pretty bad.

Yeah I know but my gpa is like a 3.5 and I believe the recalculated gpa will stay at 3.5.

And do we have to send semester grades in to FSU? Or just end of the year grades?

You only have to send them your final transcript, so just bring up the classes with Ds to a final grade of C or better.

Thanks I am just really worried bc my gpa will be like a 2.8 for the semester but cumulative will be recalculated to a 3.4-3.5. Both of the D’s are in IB math analysis ad IB physics. I’ve received 4 credits in math already and physics is an elective, but I still don’t know.

Soxsox, FSU still can see the semester grades that you receive in your courses (and in Florida, this is how your high school GPA is calculated). And a “negative trend” in grades is enough to get your admission rescinded- which FSU may consider a D in a core course to be a “negative trend.”

Two Ds though would, simply based off what has been indicated by those posting in the accepted/rejected thread, likely be reason for you to be rescinded. This is just based off the fact that multiple posters have reported being denied or deferred because of one D on their application.

I don’t remember whether this is accurate or not, but I believe too that Florida public high schools report student grades to FACTS.org as well, something that FSU has access to. They could in theory get your grades from there, and see them. They don’t necessarily need to have your transcripts.

That’s true, but what if I bring those D’s up second semester to where there is a positive trend?

Avoid any weak final grades. Senioritis kills acceptances every year.

Soxsox, my understanding is that all public Florida universities evaluate grades on a semester basis, which is how they are reported on your transcripts and by FACTS.org. Once your final semester grades are in, call and talk to an admission officer. You may want to talk to your school counselor or IB advisor about how to approach FSU. FSU can tell you what you need to do not to be rescinded. Being an IB student works in your favor. It is better to talk to them now, then be rescinded over the summer. Not to be the bearer of bad news, but the D’s may also affect your admission to other schools. It better to deal with the situation now and attempt to resolve it. Good luck.

^^^ above was meant as a reply for Kyle013194, not soxsox.

I hate senioritis…but it feels so good!! :)

What’s your schedule Kyle?

hey guys so im abit worried too! im in the IB program…
first quarter i got a C in psych but this quarter I was able to pull it up
and 2nd quarter (right now) i have a D- and I only have a few weeks to pull it up. (might end up getting a D+ or a C- idk!
but if I pull up my grades 3rd and 4th semester will i be okay? it was just a result of senioritis and being unmotivated but now im focused and ready to change it!

Thanks!

Just make sure you do a lot better second semester. Aim for at the very least a B.

Kyle, I would have to say that bringing up your grades in the second semester of the year would obviously be beneficial. However, if you get your grades for this semester and there is anything below a C, contact FSU about it and explain everything.

vodkaNcaviar: “Senioritis and being unmotivated” is exactly what FSU is looking to not see. If your grades are trending down, that is exactly what FSU looks for to determine whether to rescind your admission or not.
Remember, quarter grades do not matter. Rather, the semester grades do. So if you have semester grades that are Cs or above, that’s fine. Semester grades of a D though are absolutely sufficient enough for FSU to rescind your admission.

Being in IB though does seem to get you some slack that others do not necessarily get. You might be able to get away with a D in a class in IB, while others might not be so lucky. I do know that FSU typically loves IB students for some reason (as does, for example, UF).

Jossie- It does not necessarily matter what their grades are in the second semester of this year if they are rescinded. In some cases, sure, FSU might rescind someone’s offer with the caveat that they will be re-admitted if their second semester grades are much better, but do not rely on that.

@jossie and pasbal

My schedule is:
IB TOK
IB English
IB Spanish
IB History
IB Math Studies
IB Physics
IB Biology
AP Art History

I will have 5 credits in math, science, Spanish, and English with 4 credits in history by the end of senior year. I intend on doing better ext semester.

And I have emailed admissions. Hopefully they answer tomorrow
