I’m a girl and I only have 3 pairs of shoes: sneakers, sandals, and heels (for formal stuff or when I’m going to be performing onstage for a voice recital or choir concert).

Not every girl is shoe crazy…

Also a girl here with about three or four pairs of shoes.

I’m a girl and I will probably end up taking around 12 pairs of shoes to college this fall too.

I am girl and I hate buying shoes or wearing heels therefore I keep it simple: A pair of sneakers, combat boots, flip-flops, running shoes and winter hiking boots.
Chances are you won’t need that many shoes, and especially if you have no clue how big your dorm room is I would err on the side of less as to not annoy your future roommate.

I typically do laundry every two weeks, as that is when I usually run out of clothes.

Mom here…There is nothing unusual about a girl taking 12 pair of shoes with her to school. If you were to figure on dress shoes (different colors…open toe…closed toe, high heel… higher heel), 2 pair of Uggs (necessary in cold climate), ballet shoes to match different outfits, and nice sandles for warmish weather than 12 pair is not that overboard. In Northeast climate, those Uggs will be your best friend whether they are good or bad for your feet they will keep them warm.

OH, yes they are! Last year, I think I wore them to school almost everyday from November through March in MN winter. When I walked into school, the rest of me may have been cold when it was way below 0 outside, but my feet weren’t because of the Uggs! They just feel like a big furry, warm animal hugging your legs too!

Yeah, I’d say I have two pair of tennis shoes, 2-3 pair of heels, 2 day sneakers, 1 pair of flats, 1 pair of riding boots, and 6-7 pair of sandals, which conservatively puts me at 14 pair, which isn’t really any more than my friends have. I live in Dallas and go to school in Nashville, so Uggs aren’t necessary, but my riding boots do get worn almost every day during the winter at school. Very versatile in terms of matching outfits (and cute!). On the other hand, I love to mix and match sandals with my excessive number of sundresses, which accounts for that higher number. And I like heels but don’t have much of a chance to wear them regularly, otherwise I’m sure that number would be higher too. Just different strokes and stuff.

I’m planning my college wardrobe too and iluvpiano, I’m totally with you! I’m definitely bringing almost everything I own and finding a way to store it all, minimalism be damned. The closet and dresser provided seem to be a similar to size to what I have at home, so hopefully it’ll work.

I have a question for people who go to school in snowy areas: about how many days out of the year is it ABSOLUTELY necessary to wear snowboots, as opposed to getting away with wearing boots or sperrys or sneakers? I’m bringing about 20 pairs of shoes but if I’m going to wear just bean boots for 3 months then I might try to cut down to fewer.
Thanks!

Living in Maine, I wear my Bean clogs pretty much straight through from January through March. The sidewalks and streets stay pretty snowy and icy, so regular shoes don’t work too well.

I live in southern Maine, and my husband claims it’s not as bad here as in Wisconsin!

Down here in Murrlyn we get some heavy snow occasionally yet I cannot remember the last time I wore snow boots. Most of last winter I just wore Clarks desert boots.

I wore Uggs once it started getting really cold, couldn’t tell you when…November maybe? December? Stopped wearing them once the snow melted, which here in Wisconsin was April -___-

Last year, as a senior in HS in MN, I wore Uggs to school almost everyday from probably the end of October (maybe not quite necessary yet…) til spring break (at the end of March). I know people that started wearing them at the end of September, but that was more for a fashion reason than anything else, not snowing yet at that time!

Chicks in uggs and short skirts = wa wa wee wa!

^i don’t think its the uggs turning you on

Whenever I run out of underwear.

To the people considering bringing tons of clothes to college, don’t. You’ll get a lot of free shirts and stuff at college, and trying to pack tons of clothes for storage or whatever at the end of a year is an unnecessary hassle. Unfortunately, I learned from experience.
