How old would be too old to start an undergrad at Yale, considering that most freshman are 18-19, would 23 be a bit too old according to you?

If you’ve never enrolled as a full-time college student before, I believe that they will not be holding your age against you in the admissions process. If you were doing something like serving in the military in Active Duty, be sure to say that, too, just to help them understand your case a little bit better.

I’m an entering freshman to Princeton and one of the friends I met at the admit weekend is 21, international from Israel, and is now starting college because she had to serve in the Israeli army. It didn’t seem like a big deal to her, us, or the admissions staff either.

Good luck!

I knew someone who was in the US military before undergrad. He was 23 or 24 his freshman year and lived on Old Campus with the other frosh. And very popular for his ability to buy booze!

I’m applying this year, if admitted I’ll be 23 when I start. Yale has a program for non-traditional students but it’s super selective (even more so than regular admissions). I did contact them asking if there was any rule stopping me from applying at this age and they said I was welcome to as long as I’m fine with being older amongst the younger freshmen.

So yep it’s all good, you shouldn’t have a problem.

My dad was 30 years old when he started undergrad at Penn. Then he went to Yale for Grad. However, he may have been a special case because he was a refugee and so was only required to complete 2 years at Penn (he had done 2 years in his home country). I guess you would call that more of a transfer.

i’m starting school at yale when i’m 21. will probably be one of the oldest guys on campus!
