How prestigious is the NHRP award?

Hi, I just received the award and was wondering how much it helps for college applications. I know the amount of schools that give scholarships are more limited than NMF. But to gain NHRP, you need to score in the 98 percentile of Hispanics on the PSAT.

I know its not as much of a boost as NMF, but is it notable, do many NHRP scholars go off to good colleges?

All 3 of my kids got this.

We didn’t qualify for any funding based on our income, so to us, it was just another paper award.

You can list it, because it will show your “URM” status, but don’t expect any dollars if you are middle class.

@actprep34 I have no way of knowing if being named a National Hispanic helped with our kid’s acceptances.

For us, the hurdle was finding an affordable school she was willing to attend. We cannot afford our EFC.

We took the Patterson Scholarship offer from University of Kentucky for full tuition and a stipend for room & board. We are so grateful & look at it as an amazing opportunity, not only for our kid, but for the whole family’s financial picture.

What colleges do you have in mind? I’d doubt if it were hugely prestigious by itself, but it adds to a package of several other accomplishments.

There are colleges that give tens of thousands of dollars a year for NHRP. If you are interested in these colleges , NHRP over $100K over 4 years in tuition. Google for the list of these colleges. There are several top 50 colleges that offer large awards like this.
