National Hispanic Recognition Program

Since the other topic is not getting any replies, I've decided to create a separate post. Frst of all, I just recieved the NHRP - Scholar Recognition and I was wondering what it means and what's the highest honor you can earn? Plus, how does this award impact my college applications - especially Ivy League applications - and does it help me get full or half tuitions to colleges if so which ones? Thanks in advance.

jolly,
While there is no scholarship directly connected with NHRP (like there is with NMS or Nat. Ach.), it does get your name to many colleges via a CD with the names of scholars and some schools have merit scholarships for NHRP scholars. It is one more thing on your application that can help with admissions, to an Ivy or any school. The schools I have found that offer merit scholarships for NHRP are*:

UArizona - 19.5k/yr
UIowa - 3k/yr
UT Austin - instate tuition +1k
TCNJ - 3k + laptop
BU - half tuition
U Rochester
* This information is 1-2 years old, you must go to the college website to get current information.

Also note, that there are many more schools, that while they don't give merit money specifically for NHRP scholars, they do have scholarships aimed at Latinos or URM's in general.
