How realistic is a 1400/1600?

I'm going to be a junior in high school next year. I've been looking at colleges for a while now, and I'm facing the daunting task of paying for it on my own. My plan is to earn a merit scholarship to a university. There are many guaranteed merit scholarships if you can earn a 1400/1600 on the SAT. I'll be taking it for the first time in March, so I was just wondering how difficult that score is.

Info about my academics:
4.5 GPA
4 on the AP World History test
I've earned As in 2 years of Honors English in high school.
I've earned As in both Algebra 1 and Geometry. I'm taking Algebra 2 next year.

I just purchased the Official SAT Online Course and The Official SAT Study Guide with DVD from Amazon today. I already own the 2013 copy of Cracking the SAT. I plan on studying with all of these resources.

Thanks for the help!

Did you take the psat in sophomore year? If so you can project from there. Otherwise there is nothing stopping you from doing some prep this summer and taking a practice test to see where you stand.

Why do you have to pay for it yourself?

Are you Pell Grant eligible?

See the financial aid forum. Pinned to the top are some threads for automatic aid maybe there are some colleges new to you see the last page.

SAT is out of 2400, no?
And I suggest reading some success stories and SAT guides on CC to both boost your confidence (not too much, though) and get a better understanding of what you need to do.
