How Religious is Pepperdine University?

Hi, how religious is Pepperdine University? I know that students have to complete mandatory religious credits but are the professors super religious? As in is there a Christiany influence in classes?

Is it kinda like how Georgetown is classified as a Jesuit school but is not really?

Thanks

Based on what I’ve heard and their website they’re VERY religious. I don’t think Georgetown is a good comparison at all. More like Liberty.

I’d say it’s pretty religious. You have to go to 14 convocations/semester. You can choose between church-like services or these lectures about common issues such as eating disorders, relationships, stress, time management, etc. At first, you don’t want to go, but it’s actually helpful.

My economics professor would pray at the beginning of class, but you’re not required to join. Pepperdine students think deeply and question religion and faith. I often hear dialogue and debate among students about this topic. It’s healthy to question, and Pepperdine students know that. Issues of homosexuality, abortion, predesination, etc are common topics.

It’s not nearly as religious as Liberty, which has very strict behavioral codes. The Church of Christ (which is the Pepperdine’s sponsoring church) is very conservative, but some students are more attracted by the beautiful campus and proximity to Malibu than to the Christian atmosphere. You will get a wide range of students along the religious spectrum, all the way to atheist. Religion classes and chapel are required, of course, and religious topics of discussion are common.
