how safe is UCSD?

sorry if i sound ignorant or stereotypical or whatnot because of asking this, but how safe is UCSD since it is so close to Tijuana? Hasn't there been an increase in violence in Tijuana and Mexico in general due to drug cartels and drug trafficking across US-Mexico borders? My mom is worried about sending me 2 hours from home and everything and I need some way to convince her that it is safe (which I'm sure it is because I haven't heard of anything happening)

edit* also, how close is the location of La Jolla with San Diego? Is it in walking distance and do I need a car and how long would it take, ect?

You can answer the LJ/SD relationship perfectly well with Google Maps.

And the LJ/TJ relationship as well. UCSD and Tijuana are conveniently located pretty far away from each other and UCSD is in a super safe area. The scariest thing you might witness is a drunk Asian.

I have never felt threatened while on campus or in La Jolla. It’s a suburb, chock full of rich people. It’s very safe.

I was kidding about the drunk Asian, but honestly, there is rarely anybody out at night on campus (or around campus for that matter). The place is totally safe.

When I leave Geisel library at midnight, I’m much more worried about hitting a pothole while riding my bike over being ambushed by a stranger. Really, the worst that could probably happen is some other UCSD student creeps up on you and demands you hand over all your science textbooks or else he will soak you with the hydrochloric acid he stole from his chem 7L lab. :P

^I had a good laugh at that. Thank you.

Best part of campus @ night is the random drunk people walking home (and maybe the tunnels). One time me and two people were going to burger king pretty late and accidently threw a frisbee on top of the ATM machines in price center. We couldnt boost our friend with just two people (that **** is at least15 feet high) so we recruited a random drunk guy walking down to warren.

When in doubt, the talking tree is always there to protect you.

Tijuana may as well be on the opposite side of the world cause it has nothing to do with San Diego.
