Night Classes?

I'm taking a History of Film class from around 6-9 on Wednesdays, and my mom is freaking out about me walking around campus at 9:00. Would that be an issue? What evidence of safety can I use to persuade my mom that it's okay?

Carry pepperspray.

Don’t worry. I can’t provide evidence that it’s safe but safety is the last thing I would worry about.

check ucsd clery report by the local police it is outstanding compared to my neighborhood.

I thought I was the only one who had the clery report. La Jolla is completely safe at night, especially UCSD. Nothing to worry about.

last year there were a few attacks on campus at night, so when you’re walking around at 9pm just don’t be stupid. try to walk near other people who are leaving your class, walk near well-lit areas, walk fast, don’t listen to your ipod so you can be more alert, and definitely don’t walk alone in the parking structures.

for the most part the ucsd campus is extremely safe, so you really don’t have to be scared or anything. just be cautious.

and if you ever do feel creeped out, you can call campus security to get an escort to walk you back from class.

^cosign 10 char

You’ll find people in the class to walk home with.Good opportunity to get to know new peeps. If not, ask the cutest, biggest, uncreepiest guy to walk with you. As always, be aware of your surroundings. Walk with purpose. Head up. Don’t look weak.

Okay. Maybe I missed something here but, when did UCSD turn into South Central, LA?

if you feel really uncomfortable walking around that late, there is 858-534-WALK, which on campus CSO’s (campus security officers) will come to where you are on campus and walk with you back to your place.

while that might be a bit crazy sounding to use for 9pm classes, it might come in handy if youre walking home alone late at 2am after studying in the library or something

The fact that these attacks are such big news is very telling.

Many times, none of the attacks at other schools, like USC, make the news–especially off-campus.

Get off your damn cell phone, turn off the ipod and stop texting. Any place can be dangerous late at night. You owe it to yourself to pay attention to your surroundings.
