I don't think one of my teacher recs will reach Vanderbilt by the postmark deadline. I haven't submitted my online application yet. Should I just not submit? Is it a waste of my money? Or will Vanderbilt still look at my app? Should I submit anyway and pray that they overlook it? Need some help...

You will be fine. Just go ahead and submit.

I had the same problem for Rice University. But according to the people posting on that thread, it is okay to send one particular part of the application late - and i am sure the admission committee will overlook the teacher recommendation coming in late. Because everyone has to send quite a few forms and it is possible for one to forget to send a form so they would not mind it.

Just make sure to send it as soon as possible.

it doesn't need to reach Vanderbilt by the deadline, but be postmarked. Just clarifying.

I'm sorta in same situation, everything is complete and submitted except for one teacher recommendation. Which obviously won't be postmarked until Jan. 3rd.

Does deadline Jan 3 = Postmarked on Jan 3rd or before? Do yal know this 100% for sure?

And do teacher recommendations really matter that much as far as being in by / on deadline with rest of application? I'm aplying to regular decision btw if it matters.

January 3rd is POSTMARK Deadline...

Happy New Year from Vanderbilt!

To answer your concerns:

The application deadline for undergraduate admissions (both Early Decision II and regular decision) is January 3rd. Please note this is the postmark deadline. With severe weather in The West and Midwest, national holidays and a day of mourning for President Ford, we know that mail may take a little while to get here.

As long as your parts of the application are postmarked by tomorrow, then don't worry. We allow some extra time for transcripts, scores, and letters of recommendation to make their way to Nashville.

Finally, it will take us some time to get everything into our computer system. Please be patient during the deadline mail rush. You will recieve notification from us about any pieces that are missing from your application.

Best of luck to everyone,
Brad

Just curious, how soon after the deadline does the admissions department begin reviewing and evaluating applications?

Soon. As soon as four or so weeks after the deadline, Vanderbilt will invite admitted students to the various Scholarships Weekends and MOSAIC (if it's still around and still called that). They have to admit them before they invite them, so obviously they've looked over applications.
