How "Screwed" am I?

Hi everyone, as the title indicates I am here to ask do I even have a chance at getting into a good college? Seriously I have pitiful credentials (at least I think so) compared to what other people who post here have.

So I if you don't mind can I ask you what kind of school I can get into with credentials such as these...

GPA: 3.1 (Soph. & Junior year GPA=3.7)
Class Rank: Top half
ACT: 29
Extracurriculars: Speech Team (1 Year), Youth&Gov (1 Year), Mu Alpha Theta (1 Year)
AP Exams:
US History-5
Macro-5
PolySci-3
Micro-3

As of now my senior year is not a "blow-off" year. I am takeing several challengeing courses...

Do I stand a chance in this competetion of college admissions?

What schools are you aiming for? Where do you live?

Oh and if it helps at all I am a first generation, Hispanic student.

I live in Illinois and right now my “Dream” school is Illinois Wesleyan.

I am also looking at Flagler College. Lake Forest College and Knox College

I also have some colleges tha are easier to get into but am still willing to attend if all else fails

Yeah…
what are you talking about? it’s not great, but it’s still above average. no you cannot get into harvard… but any good state school would accept you, or a smaller, not so competitive but still good liberal arts school. calm down.

Thanks Tesseracts…

I think I needed that, I just feel overwhelmed right now. Since my parents have never even been to college I don’t really have alot of people to go to for help and alost of my friends say how they “messed-up” in high school and they have GPAs of around 3.9+

Im just a bit stressed over it…thanks thou

Tessecrats is right, you’re definitely not screwed and still have a shot at state schools. The fact that you’re first gen does help. Do well in senior year and write good essays and you’ll be fine I’m sure :)

Thanks guys/ladies, Im not so insecure about college anymore. Though can I ask you all one more question?

What are my chances at getting into Illinois Wesleyan?

I think you have a good chance at Wesleyan, given your upward grade trend and solid ACT score. (I go there for piano lessons, by the way. :))

Based on the scores of other kids I know, you have a good shot at Illinois Wesleyan. You are first generation and your minority status will help you somewhat. However, you may have a big chunk of tuition to pay; if your college fund is inadequate, be sure to apply to many schools and hope for a good financial aid package.

Good. Your ACT just went up 3 points.

Yikes, you had a 1.9 frosh year? Anyways, glad to see you’ve recovered from that; don’t sell yourself short because you’ve definitely brought yourself back into a position to be accepted by a bunch of these schools.
