How selective is Exeter Summer School?

I'm looking for some summer enrichment, and it looks super interesting in the catalog. I have average grades (A's and B's) and i'm taking AP and honors. But I don't wanna pay $75 for an application fee if I don't stand a chance. Is it selective?

I taught in Exeter summer program a few years ago. With A’s and B’s you should be fine, especially if those grades are in honors and AP.

Compared to the selectiveness for the normal school year, it’s pretty easy to get in.
As long as the school sees your effort (through your grades and teacher recs), I’m sure you’ll be fine. (:
However, if you’re asking for financial aid, it might be more difficult. You might get accepted, but they may/may not grant you aid.

Thanks! Does anyone know about Choate or Andover?

Fb0mbb I applied to Andover’s program in April and was accepted one week later. I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily hard to get in if you have the grades. With the classes you are taking and some good teacher recs you are a shoo in. However, like Exeter, if you need financial aid it may get harder to get in or you get accepted with no aid. I highly recommend Andover as it was probably the best five weeks of my summer.

@Fb0mbb have you considered Taft Summer School? I went there last summer, it was amazing. The size is smaller (150ish students) so you get to know everyone. It is also slightly cheaper than Exeter or Andover. I also applied to Exeter last year but I chose to go to Taft since it is closer to NY and I am an international student so yeah :)

Well I guess it might be harder for me, considering i’m applying for aid. and @41whiskers How long was the program at Taft? I don’t know much about them, but their campus is gorgeous!

I went in 2012 and its reallyyyy easy to get in; I mean a friend of mine got in and he is the laziest boy I know. ( i went without FA, so idk how it is in those terms)

Our daughter went two summers ago. She had a great experience and made lasting friendships. If you are a good student it seems to be a “pay and you get in” program. Not sure what they are looking for if you are applying for financial aid though.

My 7th grade son is going this summer. He is a very strong student at a top day school. I hope the Taft Summer program has other motivated students. The post above concerned me.

It’s been about 1 week since I applied to Andover Summer Session… No acceptance yet. I need FA

It’s not particularly hard to get in, especially compared to the regular school year. Needing FA does make it harder to get in, but when I went I met many people on FA. Some people were on full FA, too.

It’s an awesome program, I had great teachers and it was lots of fun. You’ll also meet people from all over the world, which is awesome.
