Summer program at Prep Schools

I know there are many good Prep Schools in the New England area. Are their summer programs very selective and hard to get in?

im not sure. i think that choate's is pretty selective though. ummm, something else you could consider is columbia's high school programs :) hope i helped

No, most of the summer programs are not very selective (or not selective at all). The Exeter program has more applicants than available spots, but most applicants are admitted. I suspect the same is true for the Andover program. The summer student population at these schools is completely different from the regular-year population (hardly any regular Exeter or Andover students attend the summer school). This isn't to say that they're not strong programs; but they're infinitely more accessible than the regular-year programs.

choate isn't really selective... the application is simple and the essay thing you have to type up is easy to do too... mine's was 201 words... one word over the minimum.....

apparently exeter in new hampshire is pretty selective though...

oh. thanks sydyen09. maybe i am confusing it with somewhere else :)

I went to Andover last summer and I knew at least 15 current students. Also, I think summer programs at prep schools are pretty self-selective.

I believe St. Pauls in NH has one specifically for NH public school students which is kind of cool.

If summer school was the key for the Fall and being completely realistic of how I felt back then, I would require at the minimum, a beach. St. George's is the only place I'd be. Ok, so your not there to go to the beach but you would be messing with my summer and I would've had to draw the line! Just a thought but agree with collegeprof with regards to accessibility.

How are these Prep School summer programs compare with those offered by colleges? Which type of program will be better for a sophomore who is going to be a junior after the summer?

Brown would probably be good. I'm applying this year for one of their mini courses with some of my friends from PASS.
