How should I list this in the CommonApp??

Hi!

These are my ECs:
– Founder & CEO of an app startup which has gained a lot of publicity lately.(11,12)
– Founded an NGO/Startup that spreads awareness about Rape issues in India.(11,12)

– House Captain (10th Grade)

– Made an app that helps to prevent rape in India.(11,12)
– Made 4 android apps(50k+ downloads)(11,12)

– I have been teaching under privileged kids since 9th Grade.

– Interned at a local Startup.
– Survey Response Coordinator at CARE.(Analysed over 200 surveys based on health and women issues)

– Captain of my schools cricket team.(10,11,12)
– Part of my schools Tennis team.(11,12)

– Won school’s annual tech competition.(10)

I was wondering whether I should mention the word “CEO or Something big” like that…
and what is the correct way of writing these ECs on the CommonApp so that they don’t look vague and make the most impact…

Thanks!

I suspect the admissions committees roll their eyes at every high school kid that claims to be a CEO. But by all means write about your app. It sounds interesting, what you have to say about it will be what sells you, not how you fill out a form.

@mathmom thanks you’re absolutely right!!

You could consider a supplement with some of your activities, with a resume, letters of recommendation, brochures, that kind of thing. Check with admissions departments on whether they would like this.

If not a supplement, write about it in a supplemental essay on the application and include an additional recommendation letter.

@comp Thanks for commenting! What all Universities do you think prefer posting resume’s and all that stuff(Research Papers) …

No. We’re not going to give you a list of universities that “prefer posting resumes” because no such list exists. If you have specific universities you have a question about, list them.

They have a place for 10 or 12 activities plus all the essays you will write. I don’t know many (any actually) that want supplemental resumes or extra letters of rec, etc., unless it is for a specific program like film or art where they want to see your work.

CEO, not. Founder and you could add developer - only if you actually wrote all the code. Are your apps revenue generating? Money going to charity? Your apps seem to be the most significant to perhaps write about in one of the essays, the rest would go in the activities list. Part of tennis team for last two years says you could have swept the courts, looks like an attempt to just add quantity, ,especially if just done last two years. Were you playing varsity or JV - actually on the team? Be careful not to water down your application with fluff. They see right through that. Don’t forget, after you title your activity, like House Captain (which I have no idea what that is), you have a couple sentences worth of characters (don’t remember how many exactly) to sum it up.

@blueskies2day Thanks for the advice!!
You’re absolutely right! I’ll work on that!!
Also, House captain means House Prefect. (Like houses in Harry Potter)

You can use the Additional Information for concise (think bulleted) information that doesn’t fit into the ECs or awards section.
