i want to write about my psych teacher... shes amazing. she is very unique and different. she doesnt judge people and is like an open book. she will tell you anything you want to know. she doesnt care what people think about her. for instance one time she admitted she hadnt shaved her mustache yet.. all girls get rid of their mustaches but none ever reveal or openly talk about them.. and she just doesnt care! she also said she went wedding dress shopping alone because she didnt need her mom and friends to tell her what they thought about her dress, because they werent the ones spending the money and if she liked it that was all the matters. she really forced me to re-evaluate myself and ask myself questions like why do i care so much about what people think. she makes me want to be carefree. ive always wanted to be but she really brings it out. she has many anecdotes she shares with us about her old teaching career and her life. she used to have a pink mohawk. she talks to us about her tattoos and weird piercings. she plays rugby. i really want to write about her but i dont know how to start the essay! help!

I am not an expert on college essays, but if I were to pick this question and this person, I would talk about how you were before you met her and how being exposed to her different viewpoints changed you as a person. College is about being open to new experiences and ideas and most colleges value diversity and being challenged by new ideas and getting out of your high school comfort zone and thinking. Keep the focus on yourself and how it changed you and see if you can tell a story about yourself versus writing about your teacher. They want to know who you are as a person, not your teacher. As I said, I am no expert on college essays and have not yet read my own Ds because I wanted it to be totally hers, but this is where I think the focus should be. 500 words in not very much, so make sure you tell them about you. Maybe someone will weigh in who is an expert and have something totally different to share. Good luck …(and get going!) That last plug is from me, on behalf of your parents!

You can start with one of her quotes that inspired you most. Or you could go through each characteristic of her and talk about how it affects you. Or you could start off with a story with her that really influenced you.
