How significant are high school foreign languages?

I didn't now which forum I should put this question in but

I'm currently a high school student and I'm wondering how important are high school foreign languages

I will probably major in math/science studies but the most competitive school will consider it right

But i was just thinking is it better if i take something that has more to do with my future field of study instead of languages ?(computer science maybe?)

--ohoh and i think i neglected to post a very important point :
i already know a FL. I know how to read, write and speak chinese fluently. It might not be my first language but I'm pretty sure i'll pass the AP exams without taking the courses.

many, if not most, colleges recommend 2+ years of FL

Top tier schools want to see four years of at least one foreign language. Take a language and not an extra math class or something like that (you should have four years of all your core subjects ideally).

It’s pretty important. Don’t switch out classes, just take something easy like Spanish or Latin.

If you can demonstrate fluency in a foreign language (via SAT or AP exam scores), then schools may forgive you for not taking four years of it. If you’re engineering/compsci, then you probably should be taking computer science anyway. At my school, engineers don’t even have a language requirement - just a compsci one.

what about french?? is it easy

many schools want you to have a couple of years of a language. also if you are taking it in college, the more you took in high school, the better off you are going to be. plus if you know a fl pretty well, it always looks good on a resume

Ill have you know that latin can be quite a challenging language in the advanced stage (virgil, etc.) amd looks very very good on a trancript.
