Just curious.

I know that people are going to say that other factors are more important etc. etc. but I just want to know how significant of a difference that difference in GPA is, ceteris paribus.

Not much difference at all. Only really significant if you’re applying to an ivy. With the differing competitiveness of high school’s, a difference in .1 GPA is not likely to make a difference to adcoms. Especially with all the other factors involved. Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1426652-ohio-state-chances.html#post15138710

First off, wrong forum.

Second, it is a notable difference, but not like a life or death thing. If you’re on the border, having the extra few As could make the difference. But you’ll never know.

So it’s significant at places like HYPS?

I’m not sure if it is ‘significant’. It might bring down your application a little - but at HYPS they are more looking for what sets you apart. Almost all of their applicants have 3.9+ and 2200+. Don’t think “because I have a 3.89 I have no chance of HYPS.” Just know the chances are low no matter what.

I would say more significant in those schools than others. But I would say the 4.0 vs a 3.9 is less of a difference than a 35 ACT and a 36.

Its pretty important, if someone as a 4.0 and you only have a 3.8 they will choose the other person

^3.8 and 4 is a bigger difference than a 3.89 and 4 But I agree regardless
