I know for a FACT that it it a long shot for me to get accepted into UCONN. Considering that…
My GPA is a dismal 3.28
SAT score a disappointing 1600/2400 with a far cry 1040/1600 in Math/Critical only
Class rank top 27% that is 83/302 also pity for UCONN’s standards.
Several Honors classes and just 3 AP classes (Two my senior year)
Dual sports athlete and vice captain of Tennis team
National Honor Society Member
First in my family to go to college(Minority living in the U.S 3 years thus far). I also wrote a “kickass” essay per colleagues and teachers.
UCONN is at the top of my very short list. I would absolutely love to attend UCONN, but I do understand I am not in the best of circumstances to be afforded that ambition. I just want an outsider’s view on how slim my chances are.
Your chances aren’t slim at all! The 50% range of SAT scores of accepted students is 1680 to 1960 but the fact that you are a minority and a first gen more than compensates for that. Your GPA isn’t amazing but isn’t “dismal.” It really isn’t that long of a shot and frankly I would be surprised if you didn’t get in… so relax lol. If you really did write a “kickass” essay then I think you have nothing to worry about.
Edit: I’m assuming by the way that your GPA is a 3.28 unweighted. If it’s a 3.28 weighted that complicates things a little more but I still think it’s possible for you to get in. It’s also important to consider if you have an upward/downward trend in grades.
You never know, just be realistic that UConn is heavy SAT based in decisions. My daughter (freshman there) had 4.6 weighted GPA, and 1210 M & CR (1880 overal) SAT and fell through the cracks. They reviewed through admissions after originally branching her and placed her in Storrs. Good luck!.
