AT my school, most people want to go to BYU-Utah or BYU-Idaho...not many aspire to go to "better" colleges....

my SAT score(1370) is in the top 4 highest SAT score in my school, and its not even that good..the avg SAT is about 1130 which is pretty good, but this is considering that only about 20 kids from my school total take the SAT...of course, my state is MORE of an ACT state, and most people here get an avg. of like 22...which is still above the national avg..

but ALOT of people here have unweighted 4.0s..i would say like 30 people at least....(beats my gpa lol)

however, at my rival school, there are ALOT of smart people who have 4.0s and very good SAT scores...my AP bio class avg. (which i take at the other school) on the SAT is like a 1450......we have about 25 kids in there....1 kid even has a 1600..

how competitive is your school? How smart are the people at your school??

Well im ranked at 102/300 with a 3.133 and our valedictorian has a 4.5 and has a minor in math. He just finished up calc 3 or 4.
all a's and took 6 aps + zero hour ap junior year. all 5's.
sat was like 1470 without studying.

He's actually a cool kid to, played football all four years and got playing time. Has a girlfriend and has good hygiene.

Then our rank #2 has no good ec's but a 4.0 ahha

At my school, I feel like I live in a different world. Only me and a few other kids have great test scores and we are all in the same class (AP Physics).

My school has 4 worlds

The totally out of it world (15%)- These kids struggle and don't even go to college.
The low normal world (59%)- These kids don't give a crap about school and if they aspire to anything it's a community college. They are mildly grungy and just don't care. These people are generally in sports.
The high normal world (24%)- These kids generally have decent grades and scores and they do care about state schools and slightly competitive schools. They are generally in band and certain clubs, often found in mainstream honors classes (English).
The smart world (2%)- These kids care about competitive colleges and achieve top scores. Usually found in selective AP classes (sciences + history, not JAVA).

my sophomore lit class reviews such advanced concepts as plot, setting, theme, and writing a thesis. I used to sit in that class, mouth open in shock- just wondering what the teacher could possibly be thinking wasting our time on that. Then I figured out that a lot of my class DOES need that.
That probably says something about my school.
We have a lot of so-called "overachievers" who would get plowed over without the rampant grade inflation and lenient teachers at my school. I go to an arts magnet school, and most seniors go to University of Colorado, another state school, or an arts college. We have the occasional ultra-talented person who goes to Julliard or ultra-smart valedictorian who ends up at Princeton or Yale, but for the most part it's state schools.

Summary- the arts at my school are AWESOME, the academics leave a something to be desired...

My school works like this. A third of the school is full of underachievers (it's a class of ~900). Then there are about 550 who actually care and usually end up at UC's. Then among the remaining 50, about 35-40 go to colleges at around Berkeley's level.

Then every year there are about 10-15 kids who are ultra-competitive and end up at HYPMSC.

my school=go to college or die. even though most people go to CC, there's still a huge pressure just to go to any college.

people in the APs/Honors aren't necessarily smart, just ambitious and competitive. and rich. almost my entire english class (excluding me) is taking SAT prep courses. so i guess they're trying to be smart?

For my school a class of 365
150 - will be average- maybe Calstates or community college SAT(1010)
40- very good maybe UC or calstates(SAT AVG 1100-1200)
10 - Berkeley and LA quality or Ivies(1380-1590)

and the rest go to community college or drop out

The Valedictorian has 4.444GPA and 1580 SAT
He already got an interview with Yale.

I may have a different background because I go to a small private school.

In my class of 75:
60% applied early to some school.
6-Brown
3-Columbia (including me)
2-Yale
1-Penn
1- MIT
and then many others to smaller, liberal arts colleges.

Our school has around a 99% rate of students going to 4 year colleges/universities. I do not know what the SAT average is, but if I had to guess I would say it is somewhere in the mid 1200's. We do not have a valedictorian or an honor roll system, yet the school is extremely competitive. We do not rank, but many students have GPA's of at least 3.4 or higher taking 2 or 3 AP's. We also send many students to UC's every year.

Safe to say that the school I attend is very competitive all around.

wow jaug ur school sounds EXACTLY like my school. for us

class of 80, small private school, 60-70% either go to UCs or 4 year liberal arts colleges. and then there's a small percentage of people who go to ivies. if u don't mind stating, which school do u go to?

Out of a class of 350, around 50-60 go to top 20 colleges (Harvard, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, U of Chicago, MIT, CalTech, Princeton, Yale, etc); the rest go to UC-Davis, UC-San Diego or UC-Irvine. Only around 50 go to colleges ranked between 50-100. Our school is the oldest school in the west coast, so we've had a long-standing reputation. Perhaps that's the reason why even the "lowest" students get into good colleges with low GPAs.

Out of a class of 80, most go to liberal arts/UC's and a few (like 10 or so per year) go to Ivy's and 2-6 to Stanford. BTW, wratofgod--I think we play Head-Royce in sports....

The average SAT score at my school is around 900-1000. We have a drop-out rate of around 8-10%. Our freshman class is largely disproportionate to the amount of seniors we graduate. It's very sad. In the second semester of my sophomore year, 20 kids dropped out. Mostly, I'd say socioeconomic factors plague the students at my school as a we have 65% minorities and many have just immigrated. Also, many of them live in the housing projects behind my school. Very very sad...

Most of the kids either go to community college or the UW. I think it was around 35% move on to a 4-year school and that's typically UW. We send a couple to Seattle University, U of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran University, and occasionally to Whitman or Reed. We've had 2 NMF in the last... 5 years? Not quite sure. I think one of the winners was the last person to get into an Ivy and that was Dartmouth. Hmm... yeah.

For that reason, my school is adopting that small-schools thing where there are different 'schools' that specialize in health & sciences, blah blah...

Ah, and the kids in the AP/Honors classes are really cared for by the counselors. We have 5 APs and about 6 honors classes for freshman and sophomore years. Bleh.

The average SAT score in my high school was about 1370. Yes, it was a well known magnet school in Los Angeles county. 90% of the students were of Asian decent, curiously enough.

The valedictorian in my class has a 4.9 Weighted GPA (That is practially all A+'s every semester, because honors courses only get 2/3 of a point boost and you can only take honors in 9th and 10th) and a 1600 SAT that he shares along with 6 other kids... By the time he will have graduated, he will have taken 12 APs
