How smart are the people at your school?

About 10 years ago my school was a joke. It is in the "bad" part of town (not really that bad...) but anyway... Not a great school. Then they made it the IB magnet for the county. So all the kids who choose to do IB in the whole county (huge county, right out next to orange and disney world and the like, and ours is more residential) come to our school We a lot of amazing kids.

So about 400 of the school's 3000 are IB, then another 700 or so are health academy. The rest are honors and traditional.

I'm not too sure on SAT scores. I think the school average 1010...

I got a 1330 as a freshman... Not too uncommon.

Anyway, I currently have a 4.18 and I'm 39 out of 760. But thanks to IB weighting, I'll be up to a 4.66 when senior year comes around. The top of the class do NOTHING in the way of sports and other activitities. I'd rather have some fun and not be top 5... I predict I'll be top 10 come 2007.

I live in an affluent community in essex county, nj. Our school (especially the class of 2005) is extremely competitive. We used to have rank but the competition was getting ridiculous so they finally got rid of it this year.

SATs: Our top 10% (40 kids) has an average score of 1450 (class of 360) Top 30% has an average score of 1360 and our school's average is around 1150-1160. Our average would be higher but the bottom quarter of our school are all stoners. lol.

Post Graduate Plans: 87% go to 4 year colleges while 10% go to 2 year colleges.

National Merit Scholarship Program: This year we had 37 letters of commendation, 11 seminfinalists, and out of those 11, 10 finalists.

AP Exams: 436 exams - 96% scored 3 or higher and 53% of all scores were 5's. (This includes the junior class too b/c they take AP Exams too) AP Classes are not open to anyone who wants to take them; you must be recommended.

GPA: We have 40 kids who have a 4.0+ (there are no A+'s in our school) I have a 3.884 and i'm ranked around 55.

yea i have no life typing this whole thing out.

wow this thread kinda died. cmon, keep it going.

Our school generally has over a 1500 SAT average, though that's mainly because we're in Michigan and the only people who take the SAT are those who think they have a chance at HYPS. Our ACT average is only about 23, though. In terms of colleges, by far the most highly attended school is the University of Michigan. (I think about 20-30 go there each year).

California1600- If you don't mind me asking, do you go to Whitney High? I think my cousin is looking at attending next year, and I was wondering if the coursework is as overwhelming as people say it is.

To answer the question, one of our valedictorians has a 1600 SAT, however, I think there is still a large dichotomy between the student body. I think more than 50% of students end up not attending a university or enroll in a community college. The rest of the school ends up going to an in-state school-these generally have almost a 90% acceptance rate, and a sparse number of students attend an out-of-state university.

My school is filled with idiots...That's all I feel it's necessary to say...I feel my IQ slumping when I walk in the door...

Big Red,
Where do you go to school? I go to Warren Hills in Warren County...

mcz, i go to livingston high school.

warren hills; isn't that by trenton? that's quiet far from my house.

livingston? hey ur in our division for math league* north hunterdon i think it's the same division anyways

The valedictiorians of this year both scored 1350. I live in a pretty rural town.

cujoe, i have no idea if you guys are in our division for math league b/c im not on the math team, haha. but i heard north hunterdon is a pretty good school.

pretty good... but... yea... not proud of it... haha

Big Red, no...It's in Warren County (northwest NJ, below Sussex...)...At one point, my mother went to Livingston High School...And Cujoe, you go to North Hunterdon? That's in our Key Club division...

yep... north... we suck!

Warren Hills is worse...At the Valentine's Day dance at the middle school (same school district), 20 students were pricked by some unknown person with a pin or other sharp object...

ROFL... how the hell did that happen?

No one knows...No one saw who did it, because he/she got away too quickly...My school was also involved in a court case a few years back, involving a teacher asking a student to turn his redneck tee-shirt inside out...The kid refused and was suspended...This lead to the school winning the first trial, the kid winning the appeal, and the Supreme Court refusing to hear the case, so the kid won...The Court said that something involving such a situation had to happen before they could act...It's craziness...

woah, this is too intense for me.

Yeah...My school is pretty corrupt...

lol...my school isn't really corrupt, but pretty much a 2 race domination...white and Hispanic.....
