How soon after auditions do u know if accepted?

I am wondering when does UCF announces if students are selected to MT BFA program. How soon after auditions?

Here’s my reason…

My daughter is only a freshman, but she got a 192 on the PSAT selection index with zero preparation. We are in LA and the cut off selection index for National Merit Semi-Finalists has been 207, 208, 209 over the last 3 years, so we feel this score is within her reach by her junior year.

She wants to major in MT, but stay in the south so we are looking at FSU and UCF. She attends a public high school but has been in local & school musicals since 4th grade, been dancing since 3, can sing, play clarinet, etc. We are considering FSU and UCF as “stretch” schools as we realize they are VERY selective. Her safety schools are Southern Miss and Ole Miss which do not require auditions for MT admissions.

However, the only way she can attend an out-of-state school is to get a full scholarship. Luckily, she has a 4.0 GPA, is/will continue to take honors & AP courses, and tests very well on standardized tests. She also just took the ACT with zero prep and got a 26 composite.

In order to get a NM scholarship from ANY school, that school has to be listed as her first choice school by March 1. Do incoming freshmen know by then whether or not they are selected?

I know I’m starting this early, but I have a son who’s a freshman in college and I wish I would have started things earlier with him. He’s attending a state school and majoring in engineering so things were easier for him. But for my daughter, only one public school in LA has MT and its only a BA and not particularly good… and she doesn’t want to go to Tulane.

Any info would be much appreciated!

Not exactly related (I’m sorry, I don’t know much about Florida schools) but if you’re looking for great MT schools in the south you should definitely look at OU, Oklahoma City University, Texas State, and College of Sante Fe. They are all audition but (with the exception of OU which I’m not sure about) will easily let you know before March 1st if you audition in the fall.

Southwestern and St. Edwards (both in Austin- I’m biased) are great private schools with great theater programs that are non-audition, and where she could get great merit money and could use as safeties.

Sorry for hijacking the UCF thread! :(

UCF lets you know the final decision by April 1. That is the 15 they choose for their class as well as the alternates. You find out a few days after your initial audition if you are a finalist. If you do not get a finalist spot then you are not being considered. Also, when you audition you can mark a spot that says if you want to be considered for scholarships and tuition deduction (from out of state to in state costs), I believe. You have to be admitted academically before you will get an answer. It has gotten very competitive academically as well as artistically to get into UCF. Most theatre students are from Florida, but I know of a few each year that come from other states. If you get your application for admission submitted early, you should find out fairly soon academically since UCF is rolling admission. Hope this helps.

What do you mean by “In order to get a NM scholarship from ANY school, that school has to be listed as her first choice school by March 1”? The national deadline to reply is May 1st.

Also, in my post above I put the wrong date, last year when we were notified from UCF for MT, it was around March 15th, and then we had to reply by April 1st and then they would notify the alternates in the order in which they were selected that a spot had become available.

You can also qualify for in-state tuition after one year in FL. So that would bring the annual tuition down from around $16,000 to about $3,000 :)

Thanks so much!

I thought it was March 1, but have been told it is May 1 so that gives us some extra time.

I thought if you were a dependent (as my daughter is and will be until she graduates) your parents’ primary residence had to be in florida for a year, not just be a UCF student for a year to get in state tuition. That would be AWESOME… I have two sisters who live in Tampa and I keep threatening to use their address…but I know that wouldn’t work!

Anyway thanks for the info!!

From a current student, you will know whether you are being considered within days from your audition, some are offered spots, but most are finalists- Final offers are made by March and decision deadline is by April 1st. Alternates are also told the order in which they are on the list so they have an idea where they stand

Even though one maybe an Alternate, there is still a very strong chance you will receive an offer!
