How specific should my essay be? Please read?

I am applying to CALS, and I noticed that their prompt is only asking why you chose your major:
How have your interests and related experiences influenced the major you have selected in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences?

It does NOT ask about why you selected CALS or Cornell, or explain how you are a good fit in their program.

If I talked about the WHY CALS/CORNELL part at great length, is it considered off-topic? My essay is half-half between my choice of major and interests in the school. Advice–especially from those already accepted? Thank you!

Just answer the prompt

I was accepted into ILR, if you want me to look over your essay I’ll give it a go, shoot me a PM.

I talked about how “bring your child to work” day started my interest in the sciences specifically Microbiology. I went on to talk about how Cornell, cals, and the biological sciences major would add to that interest and how this education would benefit me in my future endeavors.

I was accepted to CALS ED last month, message me if you’re interested in having me take a look
