Does anyone know first-hand how strong the science departments (bio and physics esp) are at Middlebury? Thanks so much.

The sciences at Middlebury are superb. The college is committed to strengthening them further, as evidenced by the tremendous resources expended on building Bicentennial Hall (http://rjohara.net/middlebury/bicentennial-hall/).

I love your username! mommamia!

wow, looking at those pictures, it struck me that there's nothing.. but i'm sure the school is nice.

I'm sure the science program is nice, but why is it that only about 80% of midd students get into med schools while Williams and Amherst post numbers like 90%?

I'm also interested in science in midd.

80% of the kids who apply to med schools? and i bet it has to do with the kind of science too. for example, what with all the environmentalists and so on up there i bet their ecological program is pretty decent. i'm not into science, like....at all....but i've been trying to get my girlfriend interested in middlebury and she's into biology (like the environmental/ecological stuff) as well as creative writing (which she's extremely good at, in my opinion). i'm trying to get more people from edison to consider middlebury-- doing my little part to improve diversity at midd lol.

hello12,
I can see how you might think there's nothing around the college in those photos, but that's mainly because Bi Hall is tucked away in the corner of campus and surrounded on one side by fields. Here's a better view of campus with the town in the distance--
http://www.viewsfromabove.com/vfaPublishing/CFeilwebsite/pixs/VTB%20photos/VTB.026.jpg

Also, where did you get those med school numbers? I'd be willing to bet that just as many Midd kids get into medical school as those at other top schools (inc. AWS).

I got the number when I visited Middlebury. There was a little pamphlet (i don't know exactly how to call it) with all the info about med acceptance rate of midd students.
I remember it was like mid 80% which isn't too bad because it means about 30 out of 35 get in.

And yeah, the other view is much better.

Yeah, as Arcadia said, that view of BiHall is from just west of the campus, down Rt. 125. So that's not the campus that you're seeing, it's just the fields (and organic garden!) surrounding it. It's a great facility, but (in my opinion) is quite...a monstrosity from the outside. It just dwarfs everything, so as you're driving up 125, all you see is this giant grey building towering in the difference...That's just a pet peeve of mine, though. I don't care very much for the new buildings' architecture.

Environmental Science is really strong here, but I don't know much about the others. I tend to avoid the natural sciences (I'm more of a humanities/arts/social science person).
