How the hell did I get rejected?

If you got into Caltech thats a diff matter…but waitlist? so what?

Im not surprised you got rejected at Berkeley with those stats…

From your posts just on this thread, I can tell you that you won’t get any sympathy from us. And if this is the type of personality you showed through your application, I can’t say they made a big mistake in rejecting you.

(sorry for being harsh, but someone’s gotta say it)

Did you make the mistake of sending in a picture?

A 3.85 GPA and 2240 SAT is not outstanding enough to be “guaranteed” acceptance in Berkeley  There was something about your application that caused you to not be accepted, and I don’t think there was any “mistake”.

Your SAT and GPA are pretty average for engineering (especially EECS), judging by what my friends got. You are probably lucky you didn’t get into Cal.

If you came to Berkeley EECS with a superiority complex, you probably would not do very well.

I got mad at the moment, alright? There’s nothing I can do about it. IF you know me in real life, then you would know that I’m a real nice guy.

If I really was “cocky” with “superiority complex” then I wouldn’t have even gotten into UCLA and other UCs. They use the same application, don’t they?

dont know, but dont worry, UCB had to reject and wait list a lot of good applicants.

All from the OP:

Well you sure are arrogant on CC, and there’s plenty of reason to believe that you were so on paper. Bam.

Maybe they came off as less pushy and more modest/generous in their essays? Bam.

Lol, no one here’s racist, we’re mocking you. To be honest I at first thought you were mocking us–I couldn’t believe someone could be so arrogant-sounding. Bam.

Actually, you seem really defensive after our posts. Who woulda known? Bam.

Sweet, just found another reason for me to go to Berkeley. Bam.

It was brutal guys, but I had to do it.

Well we don’t, and the admissions officers don’t either so…whaddya know?

sry Ashwin Sundar, I’m just trying to whup your a** as softly as possible.

Hey don’t worry OP, I felt the same way when I was waitlisted at Chicago. I made a thread in shock/ pseudo- anger. So don’t worry about the other CCers who will analyze every single one of your posts. At this point my only advice will be to APPEAL!! and quickly, the sooner the better your answer. If not, just move on and be happy at UCLA. It’s a great school and no doubt they saw what you can bring

wow… you guys are just piling it on. I have a feeling this thread’s just gonna get longer.

To add to the length of it…are you seriously considering appealing the decision? If you don’t seem to be feeling Berkeley (as your posts show), why appeal? Appealing for the sake of petty reasons undermines the reason for appealing in the first place: you really want to go to a certain school and wish to convey this to the admissions committee. A bruised ego isn’t reason enough.

too indian

no one wants another study hall student

Stuff like this happens all the time. Admit defeat like a man. Seriously, you are taking this way too personally. You’ve let this thing get to your head so much. Don’t be a ■■■■■ and suck it up. You have UCLA and other UC’s so it’s not as if Berkeley was the one school you applied to. Seriously bro, just go eat some ice cream, get some sleep and stop b###hing about your life for all of us to see. If you want to appeal, e-mail the undergraduate admissions office.

You say you’re from a low class public school. You should take into account that there are thousands of others who are just as smart or even smarter than you.

suck it up and shut up. clearly you aren’t berkeley material. I’m finding that berkeley likes that hard workers and the people who can build themselves up out of their own motivation (people who show improvement and dedication to academics). your profile sounds like stanfurd college-padding do-everything wackos material. you should have applied there, then watch as the golden bears rip the trees to shreds.

i was too lazy to read the whole thread, but figured i would mention the valedictorian at my school last year didn’t get in at first, he was also captain of a couple of varsity sports, tutored kids, had a lot of volunteer hours, officer of a couple of clubs, etc…he appealed and berkeley accepted him pretty quickly and made it sound like he was never rejected…

I hate myself for reading this thread, but I’m bored and it’s late. now I must post =X.
First of all, your stats aren’t bad, but they aren’t impressive. imho, it isn’t all that surprising that you weren’t accepted. I have slightly higher stats, but I wasn’t counting on getting in. In fact, I saw cal as a reach, especially since i applied for eecs. Next, getting waitlisted to Cal-tech isn’t too impressive either, and it certainly isn’t something to brag about. Cal-tech and other similar schools have waitlisted up to 30% of the applicants for some years. Finally, have you ever considered that colleges look at other things besides your stats. No offense, but in your post, you came across as quite arrogant. Trust me, you are not more brilliant than students at cal. You might have been at your high school, you probably won’t be in college.
If you really do want to attend berkeley and feel that you weren’t fairly evaluated, just politely appeal. But don’t appeal out of pure spite… there’s no point.

ps. Where did you go to middle school. I think I knew an ashwin s, can’t remember the last name. I’m yale btw if i did know you. good luck.

congrats to those who got in!

i mean raw scores with grades and testing great.

but there is a multi-dimension to everything in the application, that unless we read your whole application, we are not sure if you really penetrated into the levels of thinking.

Trust me, those essays looks simple as anything you can imagine, but you have to show a level of thinking way beyond the simplicity of the application.

I feel bad that you didn’t get in. I mean i’m religious too, just remember, there are no “should haves” in this world. There are only “could haves”.
