how this did person get in from last year?

I am not trying to bash this person or anything but what do you think it was that got them in?
I got accepted OOS from the suburbs of NYC...URM (Half-Hispanic)...1st Generation American

That is special. :)

Three letters: URM.

Get over it though. It's mean, and you just seem jealous and pathetic (no offense).

In addition to the URM thing, he/she could have just had something that they liked and wanted. College stuff is random.

i am not trying to be mean and i am definitely not mad he got in. I am very happy for him.....i'm a URM as well (african american) and my scores are better but not by much. I was just wondering....

Could there be a typo coz I don't see how those SATs are consistent with National Merit Commended status (approx 203 on PSATs)?

Well, Carolina loooks the most at your transcript, and the person obviously has good grades.

Standardized tests aren't everything, you know.

Agree with jerzgrlmom...something's up with those stats

Commended is over 200...doesn't seem like there should be such a huge gap between the PSATs and SATs (unless the SATs are from a really early sitting, perhaps prior to preparation). Also, the Bio and USH are respectable and 100+ points higher than the SATs which also doesn't make sense.

I think being a URM and first gen citizen and first gen college student does help; but this applicant probably had something else going on like a remarkable EC or award that helped overcome the low scores (if in fact, they are accurate).

Or the poster in question could have been flamin' us. Sometimes people do get on these boards and claim to be URM and post really low stats, just to get an AA argument going.
