Jaw - I agree, take the ACT. Make sure you get registered with the university if you haven't already. Attend everything possible that you are invited to. You will probably be invited to a Scholars Day for minorities. Last year it was held in Nov. You will probably be invited to other things for minorities as well. Show your interest in them, keep your grades up and write some good essays and I think you have a very good chance. I believe Ms. Houston is pretty involved with admissions even though she is in charge of the diversity dept. Be sure to apply early action. She thinks that is very important. I'm a little out of my element with oos but Ms. Houston or someone in her department could probably help you out with info. Hope this helps and good luck.
PS- you are probably not getting too many responses because everyone is really absorbed with the admissions decisions. After those are out you will probably get more help from people who then know what it took to get in.

I took the ACT and SAT. I took the ACT twice, and the SAT three times. My scores weren't all that hot (thought I did get into Carolina). I think they looked at my motivation and persistence on that part of the spectrum... but anyway, take the ACT and see how you do. I did about the same on my ACT as I did on the SAT. That's the general result... but some students do better on the ACT than they do on the SAT, especially since the ACT has a science reasoning section. Any which way you choose, goodluck!
