How time consuming would this junior schedule be at your school?

I'm trying to find the right balance between classes and ec's and I'm contemplating these classes..

Ap Calc B.C
Ap Chem(I'm already going to go through the whole book over the summer in prep for the olympiad)
Ap U.S
Ap Enviro
Ap Psych
Ap Eng

What do you think, due to enviro/psych is this course load just fine? How much homework do you think I should expect?

*I know it varies from school to school, so I am just interested in an average.

Thanks!

APUSH itself will take up like 25%-33% of your time… Just a warning.

Really? At my school we got a great teacher who lectures for 55min, no h.w, 100% pass rate. I’m more concerned with just how “bs” enviro and psych are. :]

At my school all that would add up to about 7-9 hours hw per night.

^ Can you give me the breakdown per class please?

Oh gosh, that would be death at my school, and I really mean it. APUSH would take up like 50% of all available time, and pair that with Chem and Calc BC and you are done. At least, that’s what it is at my school. It really depends on your own school; for some schools, like yours as you said, APUSH is a joke.

Apush and ap english at my school are a murderous combination. Me and one other person out of about 350 are the only in my class taking both. Ap chem shouldn’t be too bad, assuming you can understand it all. The rest seem more like busy work than real challenges.

For some, AP Calc BC is practiaclly no work if you get the concepts right right away. But if you dont get it or arent strong in math, then it’ll consume lots of your time to try understanding it and chances are you still wont get it well.

If you’re preparing for chem olympiad, then it should be a breeze for you too.

AP Eng at my school take us LOTS of work. Lik in the summer we get a sac of books to read, and lotsa practice throughout the year. But its worth it i guess, cuz in the end I improved alot

AP psyc and enviro are really easy. like even if you dont take the course, you can get a 5 by cramming two weeks before.

I have no idea abt APUSH cuz my school doesnt have it (I’m from Canada)

APUSH is easy imo. The deadly subject is AP Bio, where my teacher made us read the book. It was extremely complicated, and long, too. So don’t ever take Bio and APUSH. However, she also teaches AP Envi, which is also deadly. Don’t take Envi and Apush at the same time

That would have about 3-4 hours of homework every night at my school.

I took AP Env. junior year and that ish took a lot of time… I’d say in a month, 10 hours. Mainly because weeks 1-3 I would procrastinate, and then do 10 hours of work in a few days. Heh.

AP Lang = nothing, APUSH was about 3 hours a week.

My friends said BC was hard in concept sometimes but not a lot of homework, Psych had memorization that took up some time, Chem could be difficult.

If I were you, I’d drop Env.

It really should only matter about your school and not everyone else’s, but I’ll give you a breakdown anyway.

APUSH would take a good 2 hours at home every night. You wouldn’t have too much homework, but a lot would be expected of you because the tests are mini murder sessions and you need to study quite a lot (then again, most people do better on the AP exam because of it, even people who do poorly in the class get 4’s.)

AP Calc isn’t offered as just BC at our school, you have to take AB and BC together, so that would take a lot of time as well, even if you understand everything. Expect at least 2 to 3 hours of work and studying to stay on top of things.

AP Chem, although taught by an amazing teacher, is difficult unless you fully grasp the concept. Expect another 2 to 3 hours of work and studying a night.

AP English. The teacher I had my junior year left, and I think the new teacher gives a lot of work, or tries to make it harder than it is. I only had an hour a night at most, but now you may have 2 or more.

AP Enviro is straight BS. If you do anything (which you won’t), expect only 30 minutes or less than an hour of work.

AP Psych, again, BS! My teacher, once again, left once more, and the new teacher likes to make you read the book and take notes, but, I’d still expect less than an hour, maybe an hour and a half.

AP Calc BC is really bad at my school and you need to study a lot to get an A (but we have a good pass rate I guess?)
AP Chem gave some people trouble, but for the most part if you do the homework (notes and problem sets, took around 2 hours each when assigned) and pay attention in class it wasn’t too bad.
I never took APUS but i heard it was a lot of work, but the work is tedious instead of difficult (compared to calculus)
Both AP Psych and Enviro are slightly challenging but easier than the others
AP Eng: depends on the teacher at my school, and how hard that person grades essays. I know one teacher gave out around 15% A’s

At my high school, when you saw that on your schedule you would have to sudden urge to go sleep in a car overnight while parked a garage.

At my school, it’d wouldn’t even be possible for Juniors! We have A/B days… keep that in mind…

Ap Calc B.C - One of the hardest classes, 2 hours of prep time for 1 class
Ap Chem - Hard class, probably 2 hours of prep time for a class
Ap U.S - Hardest class, probably 4 hours of prep time for 1 class
Ap Enviro - N/A
Ap Psych - Easier class, probably 1 hour of prep time for a class
Ap Eng - Easier class, probably 1 hour of prep time for the class

=10 hours for 5 classes, since AP Enviro isn’t a class.
So ~5 hours a day to prepare adequately for the day. xD
Plus an elective. We have 8 periods, 4 periods a day.

I’m not taking APUSH, I don’t have enough hours to commit to that.

Idk why everyone freaks out about APUSH…at my school it was a breeze.
The teacher lectures for 50 minutes a day, and about half of the class sleeps through his lectures. Personally, I just ignored the lectures, brought my copy of the Brief American Pageant to class, and read for 50 minutes a day.
We had tests about every 3 weeks, and he’d hand out the study guides for the tests, with answer keys, about 3 days before the test. Most people, who don’t bother to read the book, just memorize the study guides and got Bs and Cs on the test, because about half of the test was always verbatim from the study guides.
He assigned a lot of bogus essays, but lots of people in the class just copied and pasted articles from wikiapedia, even leaving in the hyperlinks. I’m pretty sure he realized what was up but just didn’t give a damn. I wrote legitamate essays, but those who didn’t still By reading 50 minutes of the Brief American Pageant each day, I finished it by mid march, and spent the last month or so in class reviewing with AMSCO.
---------------> 5 on AP test with little or no trouble.

Most people didn’t even take the AP test and were thus able to get As in the class without learning anything, but the moral of this story is that you should do fine in the class as long as you’re willing to read the textbook…If you do, the tests and projects will be pretty easy, because you’ll already know the stuff.

^well that’s at your school :)

at my school, there are 2 quizzes every class and in April to prepare for the AP test he gives out a test every class o.O and they’re hard as well!!! like, for even the smartest/most studious students get low B’s at best, with most getting C’s. He usually gives out a free 100 quiz for every quiz, because they are that hard o.O
