I'm a domestic student and I'll attend UIUC this fall as a freshman. However I'll be out of country this summer and I'm not able to go to the regular summer registration program. I was going to apply for the august registration but I just found out that I have already missed the sign-up date. What should I do now? Help me please!!!

Change your travel plans, postpone your departure and go to an early orientation to register before you leave

Thank you for the answer. But I don’t think I’m able to change my plane tickets now because I booked them several months ago and it may cost a lot to change the plane date…

so does that mean I’m not able to sign up for the august registration anyway…?

You need to call UIUC and ask them what are your options or be willing to take the leftover classes/endure wait lists for classes when you get back from your trip.

Freshman mistake: Not signing up for orientation before buying plane tickets for the summer

I just called them and they told me to go after the school starts, which is Aug 18th…
Now it seems necessary for me to prepare to take the leftover classes…

Just for kicks, see how much changing the date of your plane tickets would be.
If it is less than $200 and you have to fly alone…may be worth it.

Is it possible for you to do on-line advising? It’s for out of state and international, but I think you can call UIUC and ask for on-line advising.

What’s the disadvantage of registering on August anyway? Does that affect class availability?

Yes. Most basic freshman classes fill up fast. You will get stuck with the crappy class times like 8 am on MWF or you just won’t be able to get into a certain class at all.

I’m an international student, and I will arrive on Aug 15. How can I avoid registering late?
I couldn’t find where to sign up for online registration

You would have to talk to the admissions office for that. I don’t honestly know. I am about 7 years removed from the admissions process.

“It is a common misunderstanding that by August all seats in all classes are gone. The University releases seats in every course the morning of every registration program….including the August programs.” - admissions officer, though I’m not sure how honest they’re being

I believe they do that, but the question was from a person arriving August 15th, which is basically when school starts rather than one of the registration days. At that point, some classes will be full.

i am transfer international student so i will be arriving in august as well. what should i do…

I’m a transfer student and they offer online advising if you live out of state. How do you sign up for these online advising? It would take me 11hrs to drive to Illinois :(

For Pete’s sake, just call the admissions department. They will be able to answer these and every other question you have in no time flat rather than having us on a message board take wild guesses.

On line advising is not for all students, as I know, for engineering major it’s only for international students.

I called my advisor and she said that I can sign up for the registration program in July. She said the school will have a re-signup chance for those who didn’t go to the registration program in June and July. For example, some people may get sick on the day they originally signed up for and couldn’t go, those people can re-sign up in July, and for people like me, they also can do the July sign up- And I also asked someone from the student organization about choosing classes; he said that freshmen will be late for signing up popular classes anyway because the current students have already chosen their class prior to our registration, so there will not be that much seats left for all freshmen.

It’s not international, just outside of the midwest I think. I live in NJ and I signed up for an online session.
