How to be a good tutor?

Hi guys,

A good friend of mine recently started paying me to tutor him in SAT. I self-studied the SAT to a 2220. When I started, I had a score similar to the score he has now (1410). Anyway, his breakdown is as follows:

440 Writing, aiming for a 550-600
510 Math, aiming for 600-650
460 Critical Reading, aiming for a 550-600

How can I be a good tutor and help him reach these goals? I'm doing a bunch of un-timed and guided practice problems with him right now, but I don't feel like a lot of progress is being made. How should I help him? Any help is greatly appreciated!

writing- easiest way is to work on multiple choice (memorize grammar rules) since essay’ll take too long
math- if he needs fundamental help, teach him that
cr- practice (takes longest to improve)
