How to block facebook for a student?

I actually started using the hosts file option a while back, and it works really well.

Anyway, [here](<a href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923947]here[/url]'s">http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923947)'s</a> some info on how you can correctly edit the hosts file on Vistaster.

so this is obviously months late, but in the event that anyone else reads this later…

i’ve found an easy temporary fix is to change my password myself, but to type something blindly, picking and pecking random letters. voila! i can’t access facebook. once i’m ready to log in again, i follow the “forgot your password” link and reset it to my original. super easy to do but usually enough to prevent me from logging right back on.

I permanently deleted my facebook, and let me tell you, it’s quite possibly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Search “how to permantely delete facebook” on google , or “permantely delete facebook” on the facebook group search. You will be taken to a link that will allow you to delete the facebook profile for good.

You can always use applications to block facebook to specific times in week…

I use application called FB Limiter, [Block Facebook](http://www.facebooklimiter.com/)

If you (or your daughter) have made the decision to permanently quit Facebook, you should checkout a free program called BlockFB. Their site is here: [Block Facebook - Permanently or temporarily, BlockFB!](http://www.blockfb.com)

It helped me to kick the Facebook addiction and I haven’t wasted time on there in over a month now.

-J

Some of us need the same thing for CC ;-)

There are some really good tips here! I have also found this program to be useful if you’re on Windows. It’s called StopDistractions and lets you block distracting websites like Facebook and Twitter!

Worth a download!

[StopDistractions - Block access to distracting websites. Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Digg, AIM, etc.](http://www.StopDistractions.com)

LeechBlock is great because you can define length of time, days, etc. I should really use it for this site. . .Unfortunately, it doesn’t work on Safari, so if you have several browsers, a determined user can get around it.

Try it with this one [Block Website](http://www.goldlimiter.com). I use it to block not only facebook but also other distracting websites.

Is using self control not possible?

That’s my thought too. You could always just learn how to use Facebook without being obsessed by it. Completely blocking it seems like cutting off the foot to spite the toe, or however that saying goes.

^Exactly. I personally have tried to cut it off completely and it really doesn’t work out well. My biggest regret when i quit facebook was losing the ability to quickly get in touch with so many people that i’m not regularly around. just check it less and less each day, get down to just going on there to respond to the occasional comment or whatever. Make it less of a need and more of a trivial thing you check when you have a little extra time during the day. Don’t quit it completely though, that’s just my advice.

If you have AVG Antivirus (even the free version), it has an option of blocking websites.
