How to calculate Bright Futures GPA?

I am very unclear on how to calculate high school GPA for Bright Futures eligibility. I see that they add .5 for each AP and honors course, but do they also drop the plusses and minuses the way UF does? Also, do they use the grades as reported on the SSAR (end-of-the-year grade twice rather than each semester grade)? My S is at a private school, so we don’t automatically get a BF-calculated GPA. Thanks.

UF weighted GPA is different as UF gives +1.0 points for AP/IB/AICE/DE classes and +0.5 points for honors/Pre-IB/Pre-AICE.

Right, I saw that. But do they drop the pluses and minuses the way UF does? Do they use only ear-end grades or do they use semester grades? If the student has more courses in the academic courses then they count, do the use only the best grades in those classes? If the student has, for example, four social science courses, but they only count three, and three of the student’s courses are AP and one is regular, will they use the AP courses? If the student has four years of language but they only count two, and one is regular, two are honors, and one is AP, do they use the two that end up with the most grade points? I can’t find answers to any of these questions.

You may want to try for an Early Evaluation. If your school can submit electronically the transcript, FDOE will do an early evaluation based on academic progress in the middle of the last year of high school and test scores for test taken by January 31st. They will post an eligibility determination in your online account. Results post starting in March.
