How to channel my passions for Princeton

Hey guys. So Princeton is my dream school, and I am really really trying to work hard to get in. I wanted to know what you guys think of what I have so far and how I can channel my E'C's in the correct way. Also would SCEA be plausible? Thank you!

Hey guys. So Princeton is my dream school, and I am really really trying to work hard to get in.
What is so “dreamy” about Princeton that you don’t find in other schools?

Bump? 10char

It’s wonderful that Princeton is your dream school, and if that’s the case, why not apply SCEA? In regard to your application, there’s really no need to tailor it towards Princeton per se, and I’m not really sure how one would do that anyway. Simply construct an application that speaks about who you are—particularly in your essay—but not necessarily by describing a laundry list of things that you do.

I understand that. But I didn’t really know how to explain my EC’s except for listing them. My main projects are in research/writing, my program, and music and then I am solidly involved in other things. I guess I was asking If I am even remotely competitive for Princeton (in RD and SCEA).

Well, you do list your ECs in the EC portion of the common app, but you don’t have to write about them in your personal statement.

Your grades and scores seem fine if you wanted to apply SCEA, but that’s up to you. If Princeton really is your number one choice, I don’t see why you wouldn’t.

Edit: when I say list your ECs, I mean list the ones that are most relevant and meaningful to you.

Sanjay - I think this is going to be about your essay. Why do you do what you do?

@Alumother my program is actually for a very personal reason (related to a friend). I think that I will be able to explain that just fine. But research and music I do because I genuinely am interested in those. Everything else is really because I enjoy being involved in the community. I just don’t know where I am going to be able to explain the reasons why I do each EC, because each one I do I am heavily involved in.

bumpppp! Just want to see what others think about my EC 's and if they are good enough for SCEA! Thank you!

The ECs are good enough to apply, IMO, but by no means a lock to be accepted. As I said, the question will be “Why? Who is this student, and how will he make an impact in the world?”

So my international advocacy program that I run completely on my own won’t even make me a competitive applicant? Wow, the competition we have nowadays is crazy.

eh. might as well bump this one more time for some last opinions on my chances at Princeton SCEA or RD. bumpppppp

You will be competitive, just can’t guarantee acceptance.

Okay thank you very much for clarifying that I will be competitive. I know that I am not one of those 7 time Intel winning 2400 17 AP type of kid. However I was hoping that I make the grade cutoff and then win them over with my Extra Curriculars. I guess it is like you said; itl be about the essays. Anyone else have any more opinions?

Any CC Students at Princeton (or I guess any other top tier school) have any opinions?

Not a Pton student but a parent of one. Your post looks like you have a strong interest in writing - Princeton has some incredible writing profs. I’d focus in a bit on that in your app (if that is where you are thinking of heading academically). Whether you are or not, you need to paint a very clear picture of who you are through your essays and your courses/EC’s/interests/strengths should all support that picture. I think the other posters are trying to help you think about how to bring that clarity and I agree.

This clarity will help you stand out in your application…the ad com needs to be able to see who you are and how you could fit at Princeton. Work hard on your essays and be sure to apply to a broad range of schools since Pton is a reach school for pretty much everyone.

Honestly why even ask the question. Just look at your ECs. You are in.

Okay. So definitely my next step is to bring in clarity in my application. So am I right when I say that my EC’s are good enough to make me competitive provided that I can tie them all together and show why I really care about them (and this why I really care should have one overarching theme)? Or is there something else I should work on

bumpede bump bump
