Heres my situation, my advisor told me to take Earth Science 5/L next quarter which is California Geology at UCSC. However I want to transfer to UCLA's engineering geology major which requires ESS 1, 1F, 1H, 5, 8, 9, or 15. None of those courses have the name California Geology though which is why i'm worried that I wont be able to transfer.

Based on the links I've given, do you guys think that my Eart 5/L class will be able to satisfy any of the ESS courses that are required for the engineering geology major?

Has anyone talked to an advisor about transferrable courses yet? I've tried emailing but I always get the same answer, to check assist.org even though the courses aren't on assist.org

thats my problem right now, i can’t find those courses on assist.org and i’ve tried comparing both majors to the same CC but it still doesnt work.

i just need to talk to an advisor or counselor but they won’t answer my questions over email. Just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation before too and how they got through it.

yea assist.org isnt showing all the choices of pre-reqs for the majors i’m looking at so they don’t have a lot of the classes i’m trying to compare. I’m actually trying to transfer from ucsc to ucla but assist.org doesn’t show ucsc to ucla class comparisons.

If you’ve taken any intro. to Earth science course at UCSC, you are fine. I don’t know what the course is called at UCSC but like the very most basic one, the one you take before advancing on to later/upper division classes. Should be something like Earth sciences 1. So to answer your question, Earth sciences 5/L @ UCSC probably won’t satisfy that requirement but if you’ve already taken a basic level course, this shouldn’t even matter. What you do have to do is make sure you meet the following requirements for transfer students as indicated in UCLA’s General Catalogue:

It’s unlikely to be admitted without meeting most of those minimum requirements. Also note:

You should work on at least some of those too, even if they are not required for admissions so you won’t be stressed about catching up once at UCLA. If you do get in though, the Earth science 5/L course you took probably won’t count for anything other than elective credit. It seems like most of the Earth science courses required by UCLA for the major are upper division.

The best way to clear everything up though is to keep trying to reach someone at UCLA who will help you. Try emailing the ESS department.

Thanks, ill probably take an extra earth science class or something to make sure that i’ll have the basic req done. I’ll try talking to the advisors at my school too and see if they can check for me or work anything out.
