How to choose a major???

Hey Everyone,

I'm currently completing my second semester at a Californian Community College & am really in a bind. Basically, I want to get out of Community College in 2 years (this being year one), and would love to transfer to a UC particularly UCLA, however....I do not know what I want to major in. Added to this dilemma is the fact that I only have four GE courses completed, because I've been taking other classes which I enjoyed but aren't helping me since I switched my major (or at least decided against my first major).

Honestly, I don't know what to do. I'm definitely going to take summer classes, but I just don't know what to major in (which makes getting the IGETC out of the way difficult). My interests are pretty much the Social Sciences - I'm good at History, Anthropology, Foreign Languages, English, and probably Psychology & Sociology as well. I'm also kind of creative (I like some of the arts). But I'm just worried that I'll choose the wrong major & will pay $40,000 for two years at a UC only to discover I don't like what I'm doing, or can't find a job.

I dunno...any suggestions?

Complete the general courses that are required for pretty much every major. Test the waters by including some courses in areas that interest you. Maybe ask around for research or programs that will expose you more to those areas of interest. With some luck, it’ll help you choose a major or at least narrow your list to more specific ones. Hope this helps.

Yeah, finish those GE courses. Load up during the summer and like dhbv2.0 said, use those GE courses to help you decide on a major. Most of the social sciences do not have too many prereqs to complete, but some do (like psychology). Really try to narrow it down and pick one that does not have too many prereqs.

Have you talked to a counselor yet?

Teaching? Psychology?

Youre still young

Take a class on career planning.
