How to choose the best theatre/acting program?

Hi everyone!
I want to study theatre professionally and I want to know which universities, conservatories, institutes, academies, etc. are the best ones for in depth training in the U.S and Europe. I don’t need to study academic courses, but rather have great acting teachers/coaches that train with techniques and methods for the student to become the best artist she/he can be.
I know there are programs that go from 1 year to 3 years. My options until now are USC, Cal Arts, The New School, New York Film Academy. I would appreciate any advice so much!!
Thanks!!

You may want to post in the theater/drama majors forum:

To some extent, it chooses you, but tops I’d say: Julliard, CMU, U Minn Guthrie, Suny Purchase, UNSCA

Along with the above, I would add Rutgers and Ithaca, and in London, RADA and LAMDA.

Well-known conservatories (which provide top training but no college degree) include Stella Adler, Neighborhood Playhouse, and the Esper Studio.

You mentioned New York Film Academy. That has a poor reputation - I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for respected, prestigious programs.

Having said that, it’s dangerous to apply ONLY to the tippy top, most selective programs, because they only accept 5% or less of applicants. Many talented people end up with NO acceptances because it’s so competitive. it’s a good idea to consult with a performing arts college coach to create a balanced list, so you can get the kind of training you want without being shut out.

It depends on what your definition of best is…most popular isn’t always the best for YOU…it is truly about fit

Could you perhaps have been thinking of NYU/Tisch, rather than NY Film Academy? It costs a small fortune, but many people swear by the quality of the training they offer.
