Hello everyone,
I’m currently researching about acting schools and was wondering which ones would people recommend ; I’m looking for smth serious, location does not matter. I’m just really trying to find some accredited colleges or schools or just classes to take that will help me become an actor.
I was looking into New York Film Academy( probably because it’s the one that pops out first) but there seem to be a lot of controversy about their programs.
Also found out about American Avademy of Dramatic Arts: would anyone recommend that one?
Please, if anyone can recommend a great college/school or simply classes to attend I would greatly appreciate!
Some good schools for theatre are: NYU, Emerson, Carnegie Mellon, Julliard, Roosevelt, and UCLA. Saying that however, a school can be well known but maybe not right for you. If you’re looking for a classic education Julliard would be good, but if you are interested in creating new works Carnegie Mellon would be a much better fit. Also bear in mind that a school does not have to be world renouned to be an excellent option. Check out some of your instate schools, you might be surprised what they have to offer!
Also: I generally have not heard much good about AADA, but I dont know a huge amount about them at all.
Good luck with your school search!
Are you looking for a 4 year, BFA Conservatory school, a BA school with a strong theatre program, or acting classes at an acting school? These are all really different types of places – ask yourself what your goals are and then start researching from there. AADA is a two year acting school. If you are in LA or NYC there are many acting classes at places like the Esper Studio, Actors Studio, etc. NY Film School offers a BFA in Film Acting in LA. All different ways to approach a career in acting.
I am going to recommend you take some time and go through past posts. There are numerous ones about college programs. You can also go over to the music theatre page and look at their schools…often schools that have MT also have acting. And I also think you should seriously look into schools you may have never heard of but have wonderful programs. Go beyond the obvious and there are many gems that will offer you a wonderful college experience.
