My son goes to HS in New York City. The grades are based on a maximum of 100. Is there some formula for converting grades or some other way to utilize information from the other systems. Like if someone says you need a 3.8 to get into a certain college.

MY childrens HS is based on a 100 point scale, we were told a 95=4.0 and down to 94=3.9 93=3.8 as per GC

Each school should have its own system.

The exact conversion of average is impossible. Because to calculate the GPA on a 4.0 scale, each grade has to be converted, and then converted grades are averaged. A 94 can be a 4.0 if all your grades were 93 and above. And 95 can be a 3.8 or so if you had a lot of very high grades (98s and above) an a few grades below 90. Plus there are many variants of 4.0 scales. In some cases 90 is a 4, in others it can be a 3, or anything in between.
But I can second CBK on rough conversion. I saw a table suggesting a similar converion, and DD was told that it works for estimates.
