How to compensate for low freshman GPA for internship opportunities?

I'm interested in I-banking, particularly in an American-based Asian division, where I can make use of my fluency in Mandarin and Japanese.

Just finished my freshman year at a top 10 school, with a GPA of 3.43. Got two C+'s in Math and Econ, which I actually planned to double major in. An IB internship for sophomore summer now seems unlikely, but what about my junior year chances?

I am a strong quantitative student who just made the mistake of overloading myself last semester with honors classes. I did a little calculation and expect to pull a 3.72 by junior year. How can I compensate for a lower freshman GPA? Can it be explained away at the interview or downplayed by ECs, if so, what kinds? Thanks all.

you should be fine…are you gonna be a sophomore now? if you are, you can get an internship in IB at the end of your sophomore year with a 3.5. just apply to man different firms…thats what im doing and I only have a 3.6. im gonna be a sop this year too.
