@Beshara that worked on the OLD format OP specifically asked about the NEW format.
In the New format the SAT is on a 1600 scale and the PSAT is on a scale of 1520. So to give a ballpark idea you’d subtract 80 from the new SAT to approximate the new PSAT score. To give a better idea you should take the practice PSAT https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/practice/full-length-practice-test
In the past I think that the selection index aligned with the score but not this year. Your score is 50% math and 50% reading and writing but your selection index is one third math, one third reading, and one third writing so the selection index will not correspond directly with your score. Our local testing company is predicting the Texas cut will be selection index of 210 out of the max 228.
Hi. I am in south carolina. How would this affect my calculating a practice psat score? According to prepscholar, I need a 1310. Please advise. Thanks!
You calculate the score the same way. What I am saying is that Prep Scholar is not correct in telling you that the PSAT is score is what is needed for National Merit Please read the CB link I posted earlier. It is based on the Selection index which is figured differently than the score. Not every one with the same total score will have the same selection index.
To figure your selection index from the practice PSAT test take your converted math score and divide it by 20, add that to your converted reading score and your converted writing score and then multiply by 2.
Here are examples of my kids scores and selection indexes from the PSAT practice tests
S18 total score 1500 math 760 + reading and writing 740 = 1500
Selection index 224 math 720 divided by 20 = 38 R 37 + W 37 + M 38 = 112 x 2 = 224
S20 total score 1280 math 640 + reading and writing 640 = 1280
Selection index 192 math 640 divided by 20 = 32 R 31 + W 33 + M 32 = 96 x 2 = 192
