How to convince parents

My parents want me to go to UC Berekely because it's cheaper and has more fame. Any tips that anybody can give me of y Wash U is a better school than UC Berk and also worth the extra 20k? Anything helps, thanks!

WashU is smaller and more "intimate", you are more likely to get to know your professors, even as a freshman, etc. But Berkley is a great school as well, and only your family can decide whether it's worth extra 20K (per year, or total?) to send you to WUSTL.

As a parent, I would say you need to make a firm choice, tell them with conviction, and state your reasons clearly and concisely. Then you need to respect their financial limitations. If you decide Wash U, and you feel very strongly about it, you might offer to take loans for the extra cost that you will pay off yourself. If you make that choice, don't bluff, you need to mean it. That said, most parents will cave at that point :-).

Sometimes the parents still get it right. I cannot imagine how WashU would be better by $20K than almost any top 20 school.

Why don't you make a list of exactly why you really think you want to go to WashU? Try and seperate the facts from the emotion.

You want me to help you lie to your parents?

for med *******s.

either one will prepare you for medschool if you can handle the premed curriculum. It won't be easy at either one.

Both are great schools. I'm at Wash U and I love it. But I'm sure Berkeley is fine too.

Don't be so condescending towards the 20k- a lot of parents chose to send their kids to private high schools in lieu of competitive public high schools for closer teacher interactions and different experiences- the same applies here.
