I've been to websites like fastweb where you put in info and then it lists scholarships you're eligible for, but how do I figure out which ones I have a reasonable chance of actually getting. My grades, ECs, essay writing skills, etc. aren't too bad, but there will always be people who have better grades, etc., so how do I find scholarships that I might actually win? Thanks.

Many people here would agree with me that your best chance at scholarships are local scholarships (your local Elks, foundations, etc.) or a scholarship that fits you to a tee - your intended major, your nationality, etc.

I often think that the Fastweb scholarships are somewhat random drawings. Yes, they may weed out to a degree, but I have to believe the number of people applying to many of them is a BIG number...! Certainly if you have the time and energy go for ALL scholarships you can - but you may have better luck locally or with ones that are a great match.

I'd like to also think that top grades, activities etc. are NOT always the criteria looked at most for selection. In fact, I've often wondered if it's the opposite - for instance, my D who has great grades, EC's, recommendations, class rank etc. - I often wondered if scholarship committees say, "she'll have no problem getting $$" and bypass people like my D - who knows?

There is a website called www.guaranteedscholarships.com
It's an alphabetical list of colleges and the scholarships they offer.
Don't know it it's current/legit but may be worth a look.
